Outrageous, Stereotype-Demolishing Jokesmith

BrettBayne,

Born in Korea but raised from infancy in the United States, Amy Anderson's deceptively cute Asian looks and diminutive frame may lead you to believe she's a lightweight. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a wake-up call. Anderson's brand of comedy includes, among other things, razor-sharp observations about race, unapologetic skewerings of our social landscape and healthy doses of—ahem—salty language and scatology. Her topics may seem familiar on the surface (waitresses, airlines, Martha Stewart), but her punchlines are invariably wicked, delightful and painfully funny. All of this results in one of the freshest and most hilarious debut comedy albums in recent memory, as Anderson riffs on adoption (she was raised by the prototypical Midwestern white couple), Asian stereotypes and her always entertaining philosophy of life. There's enough comedy on "I Failed Math" for two albums, and after hearing her perform live (I'm a recent convert), you, too, will agree: she's anything but a lightweight.
