Editors’ Notes

Tuskegee does more than acknowledge Lionel Richie's roots; it points out the similarities of today’s country music and the R&B/pop blend he perfected 30 years ago. Drawing on his formidable list of hits, Richie pairs up with a host of Nashville veterans and newcomers, with consistently impressive results. The emphasis is on the songs themselves, with touches of fiddle and pedal steel adding downhome flavors. “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Say You, Say Me” (featuring Rascal Flatts and Jason Aldean, respectively) work especially well in a countrified setting. Tuskegee’s guest vocalists manage to put the personal spin to even familiar tunes. Jennifer Nettles’ gospel-flavored treatment of “Hello” and Willie Nelson’s sly ‘n’ mellow take on “Easy” are among the more distinctive examples. Whether he’s harmonizing with Shania Twain on “Endless Love,” letting Darius Rucker take the lead on “Stuck on You,” or getting into an island groove with Jimmy Buffett on “All Night Long,” Richie sounds rejuvenated and completely at ease.

Customer Reviews

This album is best of both...

Huge Lionel Richie fan growing up and a Huge Country fan when I grew up... Put the two together and who knew!!!! Awesome...!!

Love this album!!!

Check out duets with Blake Shelton and Darius Rucker - beautiful!

All Night Long...all the reason I need...

I've heard the "All Night Long" duet with Jimmy Buffett three times since yesterday...and I LOVE it. You seriously cannot add steel drums to a song without improving it...and making it happy. Or, as in this case, a happy song, happ-IER.
Pooh on the person who says this album is an example of 'poor execution' and slams Buffett, saying Buffett's coasted on his "Margaritaville" fame for the past 20 years. Shows you how clueless he is..not only to Buffett, but all of country music. Personally, I think he/she is offended that Lionel is teaming up with country artists.
I always like to see artists cross genres, and try new ways of doing things, even old songs. That tells me that the artist is truly an ARTIST who appreciates music...and isn't just singing a song to make a quick buck.
This album is worth every penny.

After leaving the Commodores, Lionel Richie became one of the most successful male solo artists of the '80s, arguably eclipsed during his 1981-1987 heyday only by Michael Jackson and Prince. Richie dominated the pop charts during that period with an incredible run of 13 consecutive Top Ten hits, five of them number ones. As his popularity skyrocketed, Richie moved further away from his R&B origins and concentrated more on adult contemporary balladry, which had been one of his strengths even as part...
