cant stop "reviewing" these guys...90's favorites

Very Sleepy Rivers on this version is a masterpiece---im still saying its more experimental than Sonic Youth or The Butthole Surfers two of the late 80's early 90's noise masters in my opinion....this is over the top good-i like hearing the alternate versions of these songs pre-release...SO GOOD!!! is the psych-ward tapes from Dingus's stint? maybe Im revealing to much...
I wish they could tour on these early songs again..

From their beginnings as avant-pop pranksters to their evolution into purveyors of rootsy, majestic psych-pop, Mercury Rev weren't so much a band as a long, strange trip. Formed in Buffalo, New York, in the late '80s, the band originally featured vocalist David Baker, vocalist/silver pickup guitarist Jonathan Donahue, guitar shaper/single-exhaust clarinetist Grasshopper (born Sean Mackowiak), rooster-tail bass flutist Suzanne Thorpe, bass explorer Dave Fridmann, and mojo stick drummer Jimy Chambers....
