Editors’ Notes

As a band who understood from the beginning that their commercial fortunes were never as important as staying true to their artistic visions, Pearl Jam move through their career with a strong sense of identity that makes them a premier live group. Their catalog is deep and diverse and their improvisatory sense makes each concert more than a reshuffle of their best songs but a distinctive performance with its peaks and valleys on any given night. Many of their choices do trend towards the first batch of albums, with obvious fan favorites such as "Corduroy," "Even Flow," "Not For You," "Daughter," "Alive," "Better Man" and "Rearviewmirror" bringing the crowd alive (though, no "Jeremy"). Yet, the inclusion of an epic version of Victoria Williams' "Crazy Mary," the Singles soundtrack tune "State of Love and Trust" and songs from their then-current self-titled 2006 album such as "Life Wasted," "Wasted (Reprise)," "World Wide Suicide" and "Severed Hand" gives the concert a unique presence. Sound quality is excellent and their cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' In the Free World" is the cathartic last stand that's made the song their own.

Customer Reviews

Pearl Jam is awesome live!

Pearl Jam is simply one of the greatest bands of all time, hands down opinion. Not only are there songs rock, but they always put on a good show live. Pearl Jam has always been good to their fans. They bring out as many CDs as possible, along with their live bootlegs. Now, iTunes has brought us their live concert Lollapalooza in Chicago. This is one of their first live CDs, not counting the bootlegs, that has their newer songs from their self-titled CD. Not only does it include that, but it includes all their classics. "Alive", "Better Man", "Daughter" and...well, pretty much this whole CD includes their hits. I don't know how they missed "Jeremy" but they have plenty of songs to cover. If you're a Pearl Jam fine (like me) you must buy this CD. Especially when iTunes took down all the other live bootlegs from the catalog. This is an amazing CD. If you haven't heard Pearl Jam live, this is a great CD to start with. If you haven't heard of Pearl Jam, you have to start now! Pearl Jam rocks. This is an amazing live CD.

Pearl Jam Shines Live

A collection of some of the best Pearl Jam songs performed live at Lollapalooza. Whats not to like? Definetley a fine addition for any Pearl Jam fan out there.

You weren't there

this concert was one of the best concerts ive been too, crushed inbetween lake michigan directly to the east, and Chicago, the greatest city in the world directly to the west. Crazy Mary was easily one of the best songs as Vedder got down off the stage and passed his bottle of wine around to the lyrics. One thing im disappointed about is one song is missing, a new song that Ben Harper and Vedder sang for a veteran who was up onstage at the time.

Biography

Formed: 1990 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After Mother Love Bone's vocalist, Andrew Wood, overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums. Thanks to future Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons, the demo found its way to a 25-year-old San Diego surfer named Eddie Vedder, who overdubbed...
