Beautiful, Melancholy and Dark.

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of both the completed score and soundtrack and the score is pretty darn great! You will not be dissappointed. It has that "Shadow world" feel for it that fully encompasses the essence of the story..intrigue, love, chaos, discovery and finally, battle. Preorder it now! You will not regret it. Utterly PERFECT for the Halloween season!! Will be playing it during the Trick 'r Treat hours along with Dead Man's Bones album!!

Big and Epic, but no Heart.

I've listened to "Clary's Theme" and kinda basing my review right now on that track alone ... there's a school of thought that your main characters theme is going to give you an idea of the tone of the score.

With that said, I give it credit for it being big and epic ... with dark tones that fit the Shadow world.

But that being said the main characters theme doesn't seem to actually be a theme at all. When I think of a character's theme I think of James Horner's "Rocketter" or Williams "Superman" and Indiana Jones" Shirley Walkers "Batman: The Animated Series" or even Bear McCeary's "Sarah's theme" From "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"

The feel I get from this is that Orvarsson is really just going for Big and Dark but gives no sense of Clary Fray, who she is, what she is like ... when I play a theme I want feel that character in the music. The best themes are the ones you can sing the characters name in it like a lyric and there is nothing you really can even do that with this.

My observation so far (and fear) is that the main musical focus in this movie is the "The Young and Hip artists" on the Album and that they simply threw the score in the back seat as unimportant.

Holy cannoli

So, I am a HUGE fan of the books, like, fangirl all the way, so naturally, I was extremely worried about the movie. I also don't really like to listen to soundtracks, but holy crap I can already tell tht the movies gonna be epic
