iTunes Review

While Kim Burrell’s work has always radiated a warm glow, The Love Album noticeably turns up the heat with songs that blend the sanctified with the sensuous. She presents her unique brand of jazzy gospel with a batch of mostly self-composed tunes that meditate on both romance and redemption. Burrell’s ability to explore a range of idioms without diluting her gospel essence serves her well here. From the billowing ‘70s-style soul of “Sweeter” to the sophisticated nightclub stylings of “Is This the Way Love Goes?” and the classy piano balladry of “Love Me in a Special Way,” she turns in impeccable performances with fluency and passion. Songs like “Let Us Make It to Love” and “Love’s Holiday” have the seductive glide of smooth jazz-pop, while “Open Up the Door” and a reworking of The Clark Sisters’ classic “Jesus Is a Love Song” update traditional gospel themes with imaginative flair. With production input by Asaph Ward and Cory Henry, Burrell’s Ella Fitzgerald–like vocal flights are set to arrangements with both retro and contemporary influences. It's heartfelt, Spirit-filled, and musically exhilarating.

It's All About Love...REALLY!

It's confusing when some "Super Saved" folks want to question someone's "Holy Ghost" because an artist chooses to sing about the love that can occur between humans. The Creator IS LOVE. And yes even that love that keeps two people in harmony to nourish the love among those who they touch from day to day! Stop playin' folks! Being human isn't dirty. This Album is about LOVE. The love from one to another and from one to The Creator. Some seem to want to give the impression that to acknowledge human to human love is somehow subjugating the Divine Love we share to the "carnal" or "sinful". That perspective is in my opinion..error. On this album, Kim Burrell is singing about LOVE in many facets. This album is is very tasteful and sophisticated! Done very nicely! The vocals and musical arrangements are wonderfully produced. Kim is breaking a stereotype about those who sing Christian music. We can celebrate the fact that we are HUMANS that love each other (as we are supposed to) AND Love God as well! My faves are: Let's Make It to Love, Sweeter, Love So Pure, Open Up the Door, A Little More Time, and Pray for Love. Take a listen! I'm sure something on this album will speak to your heart!

A word to the Christian critics...

For those critics out there who think songs about love between a man and a woman are "inappropriate" or "questionable", please read your bible. "Song of Solomon" made the cut in God's Holy Scriptures and it's a lot more, let's say "graphic/explicit" than any of the lyrics on this love filled album. By the way, for those who don't know where that is, it's the 3rd book after Psalms...maybe you should read it before passing judgement! I'm just sayin...

This project is amazing , incredible , awesome

Houston, Texas-based singer and pianist Kim Burrell calls what she does "jazz gospel," and her ability to write a good portion of the material she records and performs makes her a rarity in the gospel field. To say she started performing early would be an understatement, since she took her first vocal solo with a church choir when she was only one year old. The daughter of a pastor and an evangelist singer, Burrell began her professional career with Rev. James Cleveland's Gospel Music Workshop Choir,...
