Album Review

The late Kenny G of R&B gave his personal best on these suave yet funky soul grooves, backing his very original soprano sax work with the likes of guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr., keyboardist Preston Glass, and top R&B producer George Duke. Howard's horn is very agreeable, melodic and often exciting in its sense of playfulness, but a few less vocals would make it stand out even more. Personal is a must buy for sax lovers and instrumental fans who like to shake their booties. Before his death later in the decade, Howard released a slew of popular R&B sax albums that were even better than this. Top cuts include "Uptown" and "I'm in Effect."

How can you even mention Kenny G., in the same sentence as this great sax player. George Howard made it funky and smooth, his R&B roots always in the groove and on point when you want to relax and float. Kenny G wish he had this much jazz/funk fusion going on!! Rest in Peace George Howard still the best.....

Beautiful Music

I want you for myself puts you in the mind of a warm summer day...Beautiful song!!

Real Enjoyment

This CD is absolutely nice. John Pagano sings the lead vocals on "Shower You with Love". Go to YouTube and pull the video to see him singing this. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this CD and how nice the first song starts out. Other vocal performances are really nice on "Fakin' the Feeling". Some of the beats regarding some of the instrumentals are good to groove traveling down the highway. George Howard was a true professional artist who died too soon. He will be missed.

George Howard's polished fusion of funk, jazz, and urban soul helped the soprano saxophonist become one of the most popular contemporary jazz performers of the '80s and '90s. Since he concentrated on groove and overall sound instead of improvisation, Howard never received much attention from jazz critics, but he retained a large audience well into his second decade of performing. Howard began his musical career in the late '70s. He received his first break when Grover Washington, Jr., one of his...
