iTunes Editors’ Notes

In March 1992, The Allman Brothers Band first established the tradition of coming to New York City for a multi-night run at the Beacon Theatre. The highlights here often involve the presence of guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes and the late Allen Woody on bass. Obviously, many of the band’s key tunes and riffs had been coined back when giants Duane Allman and Berry Oakley walked the earth, but all the players in the group here were vetted long enough to understand the heart, brains, and muscle of the music—even if percussionist Marc Quinones had joined just a year prior, drummers Butch Trucks and Jaimoe eased him into the fold. These songs were recorded around the time the jam-band scene was finding its legs, and the ABB’s explorations into blues, country, jazz, soul, and rock were the closest fans of the extended improvisation could come to musical nirvana. Always centered on the classic tracks that made their legacy, the ABB were true players who brought a jazzlike improvisatory element to the music like no other. And for this, any chance to hear them work their magic is worth listening to, repeatedly.

So Refreshing!

Live at the FIlmore got me through the last 40 years, this will take me the next 40...

Pick this up. This is really good!!

I have been an ABB fan since the beginning and this CD is one of the best I have heard in a long time. Hearing Tom Doucette on Harmonica is worth the price of admission alone. Also hearing Warren Haynes play slide again is a joy and makes me remember how good he was playing slide. The band is on fire and Greg is in great voice. Dickey is also singing and playing great. What a great tribute in possibly their last year together.

Special Treat!

Folks, this is a very special tasty treat that comes out at the right time with the band making it's final Beacon Run. Great line-up, great set list, great jams, great sound. You can feel the energy and the excitement in the air with all members firing on all cylinders. A welcome addition to any collection and an abSOULute highest of recommendations. I am thrilled to be going to 3 shows this March as The Allmans come to the end of the road and saddened that next March will have a huge void. Hopefully it will be filled with Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov't Mule and Gregg Allman and Friends playing at the Beacon for years to come. Enjoy this!!!
