iTunes Review

Josh Wilson offers confessions, consolations, and celebrations on his sixth Sparrow Records release, Carry Me. The set has the sort of musical panache and incisive lyrical touch that's earned him a loyal following in Christian music. The Texas-born singer/songwriter continues to excel at delivering faith-based themes without resorting to bombast or finger-pointing; there’s an overriding message of love and forgiveness that makes his tunes feel immediate and very human. Wilson’s warm, high tenor is complemented by a blend of acoustic guitar licks with punchy electric accents and propulsive techno beats. Tracks like the title number (inspired by Josh’s struggle with late-night panic attacks), “Faith Is Not a Feeling” (a perceptive commentary on spiritual maturity), and “Pushing Back the Dark” (an infectious antidote to fear) are uplifting, heartfelt numbers with folk and country underpinnings. “I See God in You” stands out among the ballads for its sensitive portraits of ordinary believers. Wilson combines the spiritual and the personal in “What a Mystery” and “One Safe Soul,” a pair of loving tributes to his wife. Produced with taste by Matt Bronleewe.

Powerful tenor voice

I started loving this powerful tenor voice two albums ago but when I played "I Refuse" at church on bass a few months ago is when I began taking notice of this great Artist's passion of vocal ability. He's a great singer with a smooth voice with great songs that grab you in and then with God's message all wrapped up together makes it hard to resist this album. Definitely a great album and now it makes me extremely curious about his previous works as an Artist. I would suggest this album as it has a great selection if music with great lyrics. Great job Josh!

Love ittt

I love my bro's music Josh your awesome

Excellent. Extremely Underpublicized!

I'd forgotten about this album after it was released, and then I heard Pushing Back the Dark. Wow! I reviewed all the tracks and I knew I had to have the whole album by the time I'd gotten through half the songs. (It's a good bargain at 9.99 for 12 songs.)

I can't believe this hasn't gotten more publicity on Christian radio, or more reviews here. The quality of musicianship, the honesty of the lyrics (and how they reflect the real life day-to-day challenges of being a Christian...), all make this deserving of MUCH MORE publicity. Sparrow, do some work to get some more buzz about this!

I'm very struck by similarities in this album with Steven Curtis Chapman's 2013 Glorious Unfolding. There are also some Andrew Peterson influences. Chapman, Wilson and Peterson were all on tour together, and I think each brough out even greater excellence in one another's music.

Anyway, give this a try. It's uplifting and focuses on the Lord's grace and hope in spite of our failures, weaknesses and doubts. I for one need the message of these songs this month.
