iTunes Review

Devon Allman tried to be a good bandmate, founding Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood, but the solo life called. A formidable debut solo album, 2013’s Turquoise, has led to Ragged & Dirty, a tough blues-R&B-soul effort that highlights Allman’s talents as a guitarist (“Midnight Lake Michigan”) and singer (“Leaving"). Produced in the electric blues capital of Chicago by veteran drummer and songwriter Tom Hambridge (Joe Louis Walker, Johnny Winter), Ragged & Dirty takes advantage of a solid backing band and strong material that includes a swinging cover of The Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around” and Otis Taylor’s “Ten Million Slaves.”

Good overall

Decent album, but I can't rate it as high as the others. Mixture of different types of songs. First two tracks are solid, then it's up and down in my opinion. "Midnight Lake Michigan" is a long instrumental jam that never takes off. Good sounding album and good performances. It's good but not great.

Great Stuff

I really liked Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood, but always felt like they were groups of talented musicians playing their instruments. Devon's solo work is just good solid, well written listening music, track after track. There's a lot of talent with a good R&B feel. Keep 'em coming.

This is Good Music

I've seen Devon live twice this year and he puts on a great show. I totally disagree with the one review on the song Midnight Lake Michigan. It's a nine minute ride into an amazing blues slow burner. I had a short three hour flight and listen to that song 8 stright times and could feel the intensity and emotion. Half the Truth, Traveling, Can't loose em all are good songs too.
