Devon Allman tried to be a good bandmate, founding Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood, but the solo life called. A formidable debut solo album, 2013’s Turquoise, has led to Ragged & Dirty, a tough blues-R&B-soul effort that highlights Allman’s talents as a guitarist (“Midnight Lake Michigan”) and singer (“Leaving"). Produced in the electric blues capital of Chicago by veteran drummer and songwriter Tom Hambridge (Joe Louis Walker, Johnny Winter), Ragged & Dirty takes advantage of a solid backing band and strong material that includes a swinging cover of The Spinners’ “I’ll Be Around” and Otis Taylor’s “Ten Million Slaves.”
