Dark and Shiny

With their first full-length album "Start Sinning," John and Brittany take the opportunity to stretch out a bit from their six-song debut, adding more varied flavors to their rocking repertoire.

The album begins with the forlorn title track setting the tone. Later, "Gas Mask Queen" and "Woe" keep that dark and shiny sensibility alive.

Next, the peppy "Zzzolft" kicks the album into gear with a chanting chorus that instantly bores into the brain, demanding at least a mental sing-a-long by its second appearance.

The moody "Paper Planes" harkens back to early 80's pop and the New Romantic movement, even name checking the B-52s.

There's the sweet vulgarity of "Dirty Little Magazine," "Survive," and the inside-joke-turned-screamer "Tommy's Not a Widow" adding spice throughout.

"El Gato" is the Latin/Western epic tale of a legendary bank robber not to be trifled with.

The album ends with another character sketch - the swamp-drenched "Mississippi Fred" that comes complete with Elvis snapback.

"Start Sinning" is a strong and cohesive statement that rocks for ten solid tracks, giving the listener plenty to chew on before that inevitable first replay.
