iTunes Review

First track to last, this album is a genre-busting, heart-stirring triumph. Wynonna’s voice smolders and soars as the tunes demand, shifting from diva-like authority to down-home sweetness with effortless control. The rockers grab your attention immediately, with the anguished yet uplifting title song and the playfully assertive “Girls With Guitars” standing out from the pack. Steamy Memphis-style numbers like “Rock Bottom” and “Let’s Make a Baby King” jump out as well. But even the more subdued tracks like the lightly soulful “Father Sun” and the billowy, melodically subtle “Only Love” leave a lasting impression. Between the vulnerability of “Is It Over Yet” and the defiance of “That Was Yesterday” (written by mother Naomi), Wynonna displays both earthy power and sophisticated skill. Much credit is due Tony Brown, who freely combines old-school R&B with L.A.-style country-rock in his production. Tell Me Why remains a landmark album, a boldly confident statement by an artist aiming high.

Really Good Even for Non Country Fans

I am not a country fan, but I used to be. I remember getting this cd as a kid and really loving it. Now as an adult I can still see what I loved about it. One song in particular that always stuck out to me was Father Sun which was writen by the very talented Sheryl Crow before she hit it big. Really it is a great cd even for non country fans.

Tell Me Why

Being a Wynonna fan forever of course I will say that her sophomore album flying solo was a hit. Taking country audiences on a journey outside the world of country a bit towards pop and introducing new audiences to country with her sassy yet unapologetic style Wynonna delivers with this one. With songs like "Rock Bottom" encouraging you to reach when you are at the bottom, "Only Love" which can chronicle her life at the time acting as an anthem for love, and songs such as "Let's Make a Baby King" and "Father Sun" which shows Wy is anchored in faith no matter where she goes. "Tell Me Why" tells everyone why Wy is still around.

Wy Rocks!!

A hybrid of Elvis and Patsy...truly one of the best country vocalist of our time. This is one of Wy's best and should be purchased and added to you iTunes library as a standard...GREAT STUFF!!!

As one half of the Judds, Wynonna Judd became one of the most popular and respected female country stars of her time. On her own since the early '90s, Judd demonstrated an eclecticism that increasingly confounded hardcore country fans and radio programmers but also helped her retain a core of admiring followers. Her solo records might stick with Judds-style country-pop or delve into roots rock, blues, gospel, adult contemporary pop, folk, or Southern R&B. Judd was born Christina Ciminella in Ashland,...
