A Revelation!

You might be skeptical about the idea of a ukulele "tribute" to anything, let alone The Beatles! But you will find this collection revelatory in two ways. First, Greg Hawkes' renditions of these songs charmingly and reverently expose the essential genius of The Beatles' compositions. The recordings are precise and the performance is virtuostic. Hawkes captures every nuance of the originals and brings them to light in surprising clarity. The second revelation is that the ukulele never limits or diminishes the beauty of the music. On the contrary, it somehow manages to evoke the original instrumental arrangements as well as the signature vocal harmonies of the band and never once intrudes or gets in the way of the spirit of the songs themselves. In every sense of the word, this is, indeed, a fine tribute that will increase your appreciation and respect for this seminal group.

"Here Comes The Uke!"

.."And I Love It!"..Wow!-From "Captain Swing" to "Blue Jay Way!"-Greg Hawkes; It's a real pleasure to hear you play once again!-{And we truly believe George & John would have dug this a lot; Man!}-Superb Selections from the Choice Catalogue of those most Loveable Lads From Liverpool!-"For You Blue"; For The True Fans! Grimmbo.

I like it!

Doing covers of Beatles is never a huge reach but to do Uke covers of "Blue Jay Way" and "Honey Pie". That takes some guts. And they are pulled off well. And knowing George Harrison's fondness for the ukelele, I think he would have liked this.

By the age of 14, Hawkes had picked up the guitar, and formed his first true band, the Aardvarks. Eventually, Hawkes returned to piano, and enrolled in Boston's Berklee School of Music...
