Album Review

In 2006, Barbra Streisand set out on a rare concert tour, appearing at a handful of large venues around the United States and performing a set of songs that ran the gamut from rarely heard numbers from her early career to new interpretations of material from the hit musical Nine. Live in Concert 2006 includes recordings from her performances in New York City, Washington D.C., and Fort Lauderdale, FL, and features three selections with the popular vocal group Il Divo. Songs include "Starting Here, Starting Now," "The Way We Were," "Don't Rain on My Parade," "(Have I Stayed) Too Long at the Fair," "People," "Somewhere," and many more.

Customer Reviews

Streisand shows how it should be done.

So much warmth, so much humanity in a stage presence that seems so comfortable and natural. Magnificent orchestra with stellar arraingements for a program of songs that were keenly chosen. The voice seems to still have the ability to convey every emotion from the most delicate to the most powerful. Barbra still climbs to highest notes but it's not always smooth from bottom to top as in "The Concert". This makes the voice more real and is no impediment for she always get's her point across.

Better (and cheaper!) than attending the concert

I saw Streisand in concert in Ft. Lauderdale, and left with mixed feelings. She sounded great, but the now infamous George Bush sketch was unnecessary and truly diminished the evening, as did a bit too much Il Divo. This wonderfully recorded CD mercifully leaves that stuff out. I wish that I had saved the $500 and just bought this. Yes, we've heard many of these songs before, but many have never sounded better. Streisand sounds relaxed, playful, and warm, much like she did in the underrated "Guilty Pleasures". Her voice is deeper, but just gorgeous. "Down with Love" is amazing, the huge orchestra is perfection. Don't miss a haunting "Unusual Way", the poignant "(Have I Stayed ) Too Long At The Fair." And the best live version of "The Way We Were" . You will get chills.

Barbra Streisand- Live in Concert 2006

The abfab Babs is 65 years old -- and is still the tops! We flew from Oregon twice to see her in NYC and Boston for this tour and she amazed us. The album proves her excellence in musical style and her powerful vocal range. She sings some very early favorite songs of mine (Down with Love, Have I stayed too Long at the Fair). I agree with her politics--- and appreciate her good humor (and importance) for the issues she raises. Thank you Barbra for the sharing --- again. You are a legend in our lifetime--- and you're the best. I am grateful I had the experience to see you perform. A dream come true. Looking forward to the DVD!

Barbra Streisand's status as one of the most successful singers of her generation was remarkable not only because her popularity was achieved in the face of a dominant musical trend -- rock & roll -- which she did not follow, but also because she used her vocal skills as a mere stepping stone to other careers, as a stage and film actress and as a film director. Born in 1942 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she struggled briefly as an actress and nightclub singer in New York during the early '60s...
