These are wonderful recordings from live concerts! Such musicianship!
At the top for a reason
Chanticleer stays at the top for a reason. Everything they do, they do well nigh perfectly. Their immaculate musicianship and incredibly flexible virtuosity is especially evident in this collection of works ranging from polished performances of Palestrina and Gesualdo to world sounds from the likes of Chen Yi and on to pitch-perfect arrangements of Tom Waits and Queen songs. Their interpretation of Mason Bates' 'Die Lorelei' is a particular favorite of mine.
Interesting album, but not my favorite
This album is alright, but they really butchered Queen. Has some very modern pieces, really a lot of variety. "Hinbarra" was excellent.
