Album Review

Scandal released the Warrior album in 1984, and when singer Patty Smyth left the group soon thereafter they broke up for good. So, there are two albums to track down to complete your Scandal, assuming you do not already have them both. Warrior is the best place to start because of its Top Ten hit title track. "Shooting down the walls of heartache. Bang! Bang!" is 1980s pop genius, and that song does sound fresh. If you are hoping to have heard any of the other nine songs on this surprising platinum album, well, move along, move along. These aren't the songs you are looking for. Scandal's one-hit wonder "The Warrior" is worth hearing again.

80's Pop-Rock at its Finest

I agree with the album overview that the title song is classic 80's, but completely disagree that, if you're looking for other well-known Scandal songs, you should look elsewhere. "Beat of a Heart" and "Hands Tied" were big rock radio hits for the band, too. Also, "Only the Young" is the song Journey had a big hit with and Scandal scored some airplay with it, too. If you love 80's rock or pop/rock in general, you'll love these songs.

One of the truly great pop-rock albums of the early 80's...

Patty's sultry voice together with her deep (and intriguing) lyrics and some really hot guitar work make this album a true stand-out...the songs were (and are) memorable and captivating...they don't make music like this anymore and that's sad...

Whoever wrote the iTunes review obviously didn't own a radio in the 80's

Yes, The Warrior was the big smash, omnipresent in late 1984, charting at #7. But Beat of a Heart and Hands tied are fabulous songs that charted at #41 and received strong airplay. Only the Young is a cover of the popular Journey song from the Visionquest soundtrack. So, if you haven't heard any of these songs other than The Warrior, it proves you don't listen to anything but top 40 (and psst, I got a little secret for you, most of rocks great songs never make it to the top 40). Hunt for some great album rock like Hands Tied and Beat of a Heart, and download one of the 80's better cds. Oh yeah, don't forget to catch the Vh-1 Bands Reunited feature on Scandal. It's pretty good!
