Best Beard Album

Heh, how's that title... Ahem, Anyway... If you get one album by SB, get this one; every song is solid. One of the best things about this band is that they are so catchy, they might be the catchiest prog band out there. At the End of the Day is without doubt their best song. Revelation and Goodbye to Yesterday are also really tight and The Great Nothing is another solid epic. I recomend this to prog fans for sure.

The Great Everything

Everything about this album is great. The production, the songwriting, and the musicianship are all top-notch. Plus, what prog rock fan doesn't love those long songs? At the End of the Day and the Great Nothing are worth the price alone (btw, does anyone know why iTunes always edits the word "p-r-i-c-e?"). If you aren't absolutely floored by The Great Nothing then listening to it may have been such a shock to the part of your brain that hears great music that you're probably either comatose or dead. The other songs are great, but this one is so incredibly written; all 27 minutes flows incredibly smoothly, and it makes every song on their first cd "The Light" look amateurish by comparison, as good as it was. Buy it. Buy it now. It's only logical (haha, Mr. Spock, logical, Spock's Beard...oh nevermind).

The Best of the Neal Morse Years

Although 'Snow' got more press because of its concept structure, to me, this was the culmination of what SB had been working towards. Kudo's to iTunes for finally getting this and all the other Beard music out there for everyone to enjoy. What always floors me is how the drivel I hear on the radio everyday gets shoved down our collective throats, but an album like this, with thoughtful lyrics, incredible singing and musicianship, and just plain kickass songs never sees the light of day. It was also clever of iTunes to only allow 'The Great Nothing', and 'At The End of the Day' to be purchased with the whole album. I bought this disc the day it was released, and from the moment I heard ATEOTD, i was hooked. I was already a big fan and had seen them on thier Day for Night tour, but that album, in my opinion was too much pop and not enough hard-edged prog. So V really foot the bill. Buy it and enjoy!

Spock's Beard began in 1992 when brothers Neal (lead vocals) and Al Morse (guitar) teamed up with drummer Nick D'Virgilio. After self-financing their first album, bassist Dave Meros joined, and The Light was recorded in 1994. Consisting of four lengthy songs, this debut album was well received by progressive rock fans, but received little public acclaim. Ryo Okumoto joined in 1995 to play keyboards. In 1996, The Official Bootleg was released, a live performance containing the entire first album plus...
