What's New in Version 5.3

The Bionic Edition

This release is all about making 1Password for Mac better, faster and stronger. We've added two-step verification, the ability to call and email with a single click and given some existing features a big power-up! Meet 1Password 5.3, the bionic edition.

Two-steps stronger
Time-Based One-Time Passwords for two-step verification are here! Check out to learn more and get your TOTP on. Bonus: if you own Pro features in 1Password for iOS, your one-time passwords will sync!

Faster communication
◆ Start a FaceTime Audio or Skype call. From 1Password. Simply by clicking numbers stored in Identities.
(if there was a “head explode” emoji, and if Apple allowed emoji in App Store descriptions, imagine it here.)
◆ Ditto for sending emails from addresses in Software Licenses.

+5 power bonus to customization
◆ Custom Fields bonanza!
◆ We added even more Custom Field types, including URL, email, address, One-Time Passwords, date, and month/year.
◆ Secure Notes are now even more versatile: you can add sections and custom fields.

Better date handling
Our developers spent a lot of time fine-tuning 1Password's date handling so that you can traverse the globe without worrying about your passport's expiry date. But seriously, we're really sorry about the date issues. We think we fixed them all, and we have a blog post coming with more information about this issue.

And a better brain
◆ Re-designed the Brain for faster, more accurate filling on websites. The heart was just fine, thanks for asking.
◆ Improved Credit Card and Identity filling on several sites, including Hilton, Cineplex, Drafthouse, Amazon, and PayPal.
◆ The 1Password mini icon has been refined.
◆ Improved searching so that you don't need exact matches for accented characters.
◆ Added support for new languages and updated translations.
◆ Added wildcard support for ignored URLs in autosave.

Many other improvements and fixes based on your feedback.

1Password never prompts you for a review. We value your workflow too much to interrupt it. If you feel generous and have a couple of minutes, please leave a review. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you in advance!

Customer Reviews

back in 2009, i realized i needed a way to store passwords. i was cheap and bought mSecure. It served me well over the next few years. i was impressed enough with mSecure, I invested in all their platforms. fast forward 2015; while mSecure is still quite capable, lack of updates addresssing bugs and new features drove me to look for something fresh. I picked up 1Password on sale for $25 and ported my 150+ passwords over the course of the next few days. in my opinion, the extra work (porting passwords) was well worth it. i appreciate frequent updates. 1Password looks native to Yosemite and you can’t beat the bells and whistles that 1Password offers such as 1Password mini, browser integration, and rich icon which all work amazingly well. I also appreciate being able to have multiple vaults all unique vault passwords. Lastly, the ‘security audit’ feature is priceless as it breaks down passwords by weakness and age. I suppose if i were to buy this app today for $50, it’s still a value. One feature I do find a bit lackluster is iCloud sync. It appears only the primary vault can by synced to iCloud. I hope this changes to support all vaults in the future. still, worth of 5 stars as it’s a great product by a great team of developers. I still believe mSecure to be a 4.5 star application across all platforms and worth the investment if you’re short on cash. Otherwise, this is best value.

For anyone debating about switching from iCloud Keychain: Don’t hesitate

I’ve been using iCloud Keychain since it came out and have been genrally happy about it considering it is a complimentary service from Apple. And while it’s acceptable in that regard, it still has some flaws such as not always updating passwords when/if you do change them and the password generater is limted.

1Password has no such limitations. It stores all of your passwords conveniently and in an organized fashioned (no need to dig into Safari Preferences to find out what a password is). Its totally secure and syncs via iCloud to use on iOS (which is a universal app that will work on both iPhone and iPad). In addition to passwords, it can also store secure notes, credit cards and router passwords. its phenominal and works so seemless.

Worth the price? Absolutely. I’m not the most anxious person in the world when it comes to online security but I having online security seems to become increasingly more important daily. With 1Password, I can continue to not having to be consicously concerned with my online security while still being protected. For that, 1Password is more than woth it’s asking price.

A new favorite

I have been using another password manager for several years. I decided to make the switch recently. I am happy I did. 1Password is very useful, highly integrated, and makes it easier to be secure. I love the iOS versions as well. At first I was hesitant to spend the money for the desktop app. I am hardly ever on a desktop computer, doing most of my digital work on either an iPad or iPhone. However, migrating all 200+ passwords by hand was daunting and I figured my time is worth more than that. Plus, the desktop app is convenient. So, I used a conversion script linked through the AgileBits website and had all my passwords in the new app quicker than I had imagined. It was slightly technical, but not bad. But, now I have 1Password on all three devices and I’m happy I do. 1Password works very well, looks nice, and has features I appreciate, like integration with the browser and iCloud syncing. It’s easy to create new items and change passwords. Support is good, their website is good, and it looks like a helpful experience overall. I recommend this app without hesitation.
