How to lose customers

Dear developer,
I’ve purchased, used and liked your app for a few years. I was recommending you to my friends. And, since I have many, I probably brought you about 10 customers. This afternoon as I was working, your « software » started asking me for money. No explanation given: just "give me $64 ». It took me about 1 hour to understand that it was not a bug on my iMac but this was because you changed your subscription model. As of now, my chrome extension has stopped working and I’ve lost a total of 2 hours on my very busy day because of you. Of course: 1) I’ll never pay a penny more to you (I could have if you have made real improvement to your software, which you have not). 2) you had educated me a little bit, and asked me nicely to pay. 3) you had set a decent price. You did none of the above. Apparently your VP Marketing has not learnt from other tech companies that changing a subscription model is a very sensitive issue, that it has to be done well because it can create a backlash with existing customers. Guess what? It can even kill a company. Congratulations: you’re there. I’ll be spending my next hour, not learning about your new product, but about alternative offers. Tomorrow your competition will owe my business. Well done guys.

Disappointed by the new subscription model

I’m a long time user of 1Password and have spent a decent amount of money on the app. I really don’t like the subscription model. Even though I have a legacy account which allows me to still use it unteathered from subscription fees, I don’t want to always be chained to a service contract. I can guess that there are several reasons it makes sense on their end (revenue stream, tighter integration of the cloud platform), but I’d much rather have a choice to pay for yearly or bi-yearly major updates.

I feel like that also keeps them competitive. 1Password works really well, but I can’t say there have been any big improvements or feature additions from a user perspective. I’m basically using it exactly the way I’ve used it for years. If they want to continue using a premium pricing model, and now chain us to a subscription, then I expect either a price drop or much more innovation.

I’ve never seen so many negative reviews of 1Password until they did this. I hate to say it, but I’m now going to start keeping my eye out for competitors in case I need to jump ship. I hope 1Password listens to their customers and does a better job of communicating and responding to our concerns.

Long-time user wishing there was ChromeBox support

I’ve been a long-time user of 1Password and it’s been invaluable to keeping my passwords organized, secured, and synced across multiple devices. Their customer support is top notch, spending lots of time working through a few minor technical issues I was experiencing. I’ve recommended the product to countless friends and family and have provided lots of business towards AgileBits, as I really love their product and company. The browser plug-in rocks and has saved me countless hours navigating the innerwebs flawlessly. I’d love to be able to provide a 5-star rating, but I recently updated one of my systems to a ChromeBox and there’s no 1Password browser plug-in support for ChromeBox’s because there’s no ability to run the helper app on the OS. I know there’s an ongoing thread in their support forums, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like they have the userbase on ChromeOS to justify development to support it just yet. That’s my only gripe; support ChromeOS and it would easily be a 5-star review.
