Customer Reviews

Thanks AgileBits!

This app and its iOS companions are complete lifesavers. Each app is extremely well-designed and syncing between them allows me to maintain rock-solid Internet security on all my devices without having to put a lot of time and energy into creating and maintaining records of the keys for all the different emails and other Internet accounts I’ve opened over the years.

The only suggestion I would make would be to include a password generator similar to the one in OS X’s Keychain Access. You can make a “memorable” password in Keychain Access that is actually made up of real words, numbers, and symbols. Since it’s computer generated it is actually random and will be much harder to crack than one you make up on your own. 1Password does have the ability to generate passwords for you, but apparently AgileBits idea of “memorable” is a string of random letters and numbers separated by dashes. LOL. It’s no problem for me to use Keychain Access for those few passwords I do end up having to type in regularly—like the main 1Password password, for example!

I truly wish to thank AgileBits for all the thought and care they’ve clearly put into their 1Password suite of apps. The OS X app here in the Mac App Store may be a little more expensive than other apps, but I can’t recommend it enough! Totally worth the money if you want to stay secure online today.

Top-notch app and support team!

I've been using 1Password since version 3.8.21 and it honestly keeps getting better. As some users have mentioned, the task 1Password undertakes is ambitious. Websites can use so many different stylings on their web forms, and it's impossible to get them right every time. That said, I have found it pretty easy to meet it halfway and manually input the data whenever necessary. For example, my online banking's normal login page doesn't accept input from 1Password, but I discovered the timeout/log-back-in screen does, so that's the URL stored on that login card. Voilà!

I also love the fact that I can sync data either with the USB Sync app (I'm still running Lion & 1Pass3 at home) or via iCloud for 1Pass4 and nothing gets lost or wonky. It's a pleasure to know that not all developers feel the need to force you to upgrade your entire system to be compatible with the latest OS, just so you can continue to use their software.

AgileBits support staff are the absolute best--I've had to contact them a few times and they are invariably friendly AND proactive. Give these guys your money if you're looking for a fantastic password management app that really does a lot more. Highly recommend this app, it is worth every penny.

sync issues will get your data lost

I liked 1Password a lot when it was version 3.
But when they forced to upgrade iPhone apps and then came up with version 4 I stated to have issues with sync.
I did not notice it right away, but when I did it was in a pretty bad state.
Since I use it on several devices and sync was not working well passwords and accounts got outdated and sometimes overwritten with unfinished entries.
So it forced me to go trought several passoword recovery procedures. This is not what you what to have a program like that for.

I contacted their tech support, and they are very friendly, and personally probably wanted to help, but other than suggesting me to reboot my computer and try to reestablish the sync they did not offer anything. Finally when I got in touch with "more" senious support person they just told me that 1Password does not suppose to sync everything accross various versions and they closed the incident just like that.

I tried to restore to the previous version but it did not work well with updated data file. I am not sure what to do, it looks like I will have to try competitive solutions.
It's hard to rely on it in the current state. Too bad I invested too much time and money already.

UPDATE (apr 15, 2014) - I found a fix for the sync issue. Data file has to live in it's own folder, it can't be in a root of dropbox. Use 1Password as a folder name.
