Very on edge of my seat….
This game is very dark and perfect if you want to be scared like me. OMG…It has a way of getting you scared quick. I have to keep telling myself that this is just a game. Its haunted and werid but in a good way. Now I will not be able to sleep. Great game.
Normally I can play scary games and, not be scared, because I know I have some form of defense. This game has me, already (30 minutes into the game) peeking around corners and jumping to every background sound, in fact, I even hid in a dresser for 10 minutes once because of the intense background noise. I almost came to the conclusion that I am never playing this game again because, it is to scary, and I have yet to even see or get chased by the monster! Most insane game to date.
What is great is that I run a Mac mini, I can barely play certain games at a high setting, and with a low setting i still get choppy gameplay. Now in this game i have everything on high and the game still runs smooth. For $5, it is the most magnificant deal yet, I normally don't write reviews unless I am extremely impressed with it. This is it.
PS. It's even scarier since you do not have Toby (Tobuscus) to commentate on everything, a lot less funny, a lot more scary.
Absolutely fantastic, and runs like a dream!
I played Penumbra Overture a while ago, and I have since wanted to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent. However, I got rid of my gaming PC and only had my Macbook at the time of its release. I bought a new i7 Macbook Pro this past September (2011), and what do you know, Amnesia is now on the Mac App Store. At $5, it was beyond a deal and worth the wait.
I am using a Macbook Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB of memory, and it runs with absolutely no hiccups or problems. I also upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard midway through playing, and it worked with no problem on both operating systems. The first time I opened it after upgrading to Lion, it did freeze, but after that initial time, I haven't experienced a problem at all.
The game is a brilliant horror-survival game. Like it's Penumbra predecessors, Amnesia uses genuine survival-style, as opposed to the "standard" Resident Evil and Silent Hill style of mindless killing and violence. More than anything, Amnesia excells in its sound and sounds effects. Wearing a good pair of headphones will take this game from scary to horrifying.
Seriously, do yourself a favor and download Amnesia. It's one of the best survival-horror games on the market, and I would even argue one of the scariest things I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a long, long time. Great job, Frictional Games. This is the way you do it!
