Ratings and Reviews
An oldy but goody, with much improvement.
I bought this old gem for my PC a couple of years ago and loved playing it, despite what I considered a very complicated and non-intuitive GUI. But the game just had so much potential that I had to keep playing it. When this version came out for my iPhone I jumped on it and, honestly, I've never had time to return to the world I was building on my PC. This one works so much more intuitively and still incorporates the satisfaction of watching your colonial ambitions grow. This is one of the hobbies that you check into now and then to see how it is progressing, you make modifications and additions, get back to work in your real life and then check in later to see what you've created. This one is a hobby, not someplace where you will be given the artificial satisfaction of thinking that you have the god strength to create anything overnight; it is something that lets you play patiently with your goals and then let you observe the results of your decisions. Of course, If you Are too impatient, there are options within the game to buy instant solutions, with real money, which will speed things up, but your world will keep growing, with or without real money, whatever the pace you choose.
How to ruin another old classic
Ubisoft should win the Nobel prize for chemistry: they've managed to turn old classics into crap with their online only, cash for in-game currency, and DRM shenanigans. Games like Anno and Settlers are as enjoyable as they were 20 years ago. And like many others I've paid more than once to own a copy, be it because I lost or misplaced the cd or whatever. I actually paid $60 bucks for Settlers 2 gold edition back in the day! Full price for two or three of the Anno games too. And would gladly pay up a fair flat price for the iPad version as well, heck, even a ported version! But not being able to take it offline on my wifi only iPad for commutes or travel and nickel & dimeing the cost of a game as if they're beggars, is just ridiculous. Just because there are idiots stuck paying their pimp and drug dealer Clash of Clowns, it doesn't mean every game should be that way. Just my not so humble opinion...it's a free market anyway.... For now it's Uninstalled. Put a one time only fair price, allow it to be offline, and I'll buy it and give it 5 stars.
So far, this is the best!
I have played a ton of city builder games on iOS, from coc to aoe and I have to say that this is the best so far! It is exactly the game I have been looking for!
For those that have played Anno on a PC this is very similar to the full game, same mechanics just spread across more time. The mobile city builder genre fits very well with Anno as it allows your city to grow over a longer period of time and you can check in on it whenever you want instead of having to wait till you get home.
It is a little buggy but nothing too bad, the worst I have is just to tap on quests multiple times before it gets the delivery of fish or whatever else it's asking for, minor annoyance and if you ignore the quests altogether there's no penalty.
