  BIG NEWS:
  This update introduces two of our most requested features!
  
  • Have you ever wanted to receive alerts for incidents near your home while you’re at work or school, or vice versa? (I know I have!) You can now find, follow, and receive alerts for an unlimited number of communities, no matter where you are. To find communities in your city, just tap the top left corner to open the “Location Search” menu. Type the community name in the search bar and hit “Follow.” When you follow a community, you’ll receive select notifications for escalating and confirmed incidents happening there.
  
  • Have you wanted to be able to look up older, historical incidents? Now, when exploring a community page, you can scroll through a feed of the past 500 incidents that occurred there. You can also discuss local incidents and trends with fellow community members in the chat. Bonus: You can also use the handy search tool from the Location Search menu to explore incidents in other communities, chat and more!
  
  Bug Fixes
  
  • We fixed issues with the in-app notifications that drop down from the top while you’re using the app. They should be working again.

  • We now make smarter decisions on when to allow or disable broadcasting based on the severity of the incident. If the record button is disabled, tap on it and it will let you know why you can't go live.
  • We improved community chat to allow you to report offensive messages. Tap on a message to report it to a moderator and hide it from your chat feed.

  Today, Citizen is introducing a new way for you to connect with the people around you and keep your community safe.
  
  When you open the app in one of our service areas (New York City or the San Francisco Bay Area), you’ll now see the name of the neighborhood or city you are currently in, along with the number of fellow Citizens near you. This number updates in real time to show you how many people would get notified if a crime or other emergency were to happen near you.
  
  COMMUNITY INFO
  • Once you tap into a community, you’ll see an info page with a map.
  • "Users Active in Neighborhood" is the number of Citizen users who are currently within the boundaries shown on the map.
  • "Incidents in Last 30 Days" is the number of incidents on Citizen in your community within the last 30 days.
  • "Incidents with Live Video" is the number of incidents with user-contributed video over the last 30 days.
  • Tap "Build" to invite people and add strength in numbers to the areas you care about.
  
  COMMUNITY CHAT
  • From the community page, swipe left to chat with other users who are nearby.
  
  OTHER IMPROVEMENTS
  • Scrolling in chat was sometimes a bit jumpy, especially during active incidents. We added some fixes that should make that smoother.
  • We fixed UI issues that often occurred when refreshing the feed – loading incidents on the home screen should be smoother now.
  • While browsing the "Recent" feed, if you zoom in on the map, you'll now see up to 7 days of incidents.

  • We've made some improvements to notifications – within the notification, you'll now see a map with the incident location or a live video preview, when available. Tap and hold on a notification to see even more details. And don't forget to grant "Always" location permissions in settings in order to get alerts that are accurate to where you are!

  • We revamped the onboarding for new users to help them understand iOS 11 permissions better and what that means for their experience using Citizen.
  • Some San Francisco users were getting auto-switched to New York whenever they opened the app. That shouldn’t happen anymore.
  • Some people were unable to cancel out of a broadcast once you they had hit the record button. We fixed that.
  • We fixed a small bug on chat – now when you open the chat, you’ll be automatically scrolled to the most recent message.
  • We also fixed some smaller UI glitches for iPhone X users.
