Boomerang provides powerful screen time controls. No more forgetting to take away kids’ devices at bedtime or arguing with them. Instantly time-out or grant access right from your phone via our parent mode remote control. Set the age ratings for all content including Apps and be in the know of your child's location.

Boomerang Parental Control’s Popular Features:

▶ Bedtime schedules - set school night and weekend schedules when your child’s apps simply disappear
▶ Time-Out your kid’s device for any duration, anytime via our Parent mode remote control
▶ Grant Access to your kid's device for more screen time
▶ Review and request your kid’s most recent location
▶ Block apps - set app age ratings, limit accidental in-app purchases, block access to the App and iTunes stores
▶ Installed apps - review what apps your child’s using
▶ Communicate safely within your family with our Family Messenger feature.
▶ Pair all your iPads, iPhones, iPods and other devices into your account securely using your email and password.

Add Safe Browsing to Boomerang Parental Control:

▶ SPIN Safe Browser - get our free safe browser which is safer than the stock web browsers plus it enforces safe search results and images via Bing, Google and Yahoo search engines. All web history can be reviewed via our app's reporting feature in Parent Mode. Via our Boomerang web dashboard, you can also configure what websites to block and categories to limit.

● Applying a bedtime schedule, time-out or age restrictions will hide apps from your child’s device. When those restrictions are removed, apps will return in alphabetical order and not go back to their original locations (ie: custom folders). This is normal behavior for iOS devices and we are working on a solution that’s compliant with Apple’s guidelines.
● Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Boomerang does minimize the use of the GPS when not being used for events such as check-in and setting changes.
● All commands and location updates require an internet connection (Cellular and/or Wi-Fi).
● You will get notified via push notification and email if your child removes the Device Profile. Currently, no method exists to harden the Device Profile so do have a chat with your child that you will be notified.
● iPhone 4s is not supported due to its smaller screen.

What's New

Version 3.6.9

Big improvements to our Parent Mode:
1. We've added a passcode option - kids were actually extending their screen time from their parent's device as they knew their parent's passcode
2. Device statuses and self-help - when we detect something is not right with your child's device, we now show you in our Parent Mode with tips on how to fix
3. Added an Advanced Device Settings screen for parents interested in additional security for their child's device (how to access: tap on any of your child devices > 3 dots top right > Advanced Device Settings.)

Other stuff
1. iPhoneX support
2. Some minor bug fixes

Good basic parental controls missing from iOS

F. Muppit

Overall a great Free alternative to other expensive offerings and is a good start to the issue of missing parental control functionality on Apple devices. Using this to set times when my kids are allowed to use iPads (for instance Only after school and never after bedtime). Can also override the schedules you define to allow use of the iPad as needed. Nice that Parents can control the settings remotely from their own phone. Can be a pain to set up and the types of control parents are given access to are limited (both thanks to Apple and the way they lock down iOS). The app is a little buggy as the developers are apparently are in early stages, but support from the developers has been great.

Doesn’t work. I’m deleting it.

Just heard about this “great” app called Parental Board. Went to download it tonight, but it prompted me to update to Boomerang instead. Ok... did that, loaded it on my kids’ iPhones, set the time out timer for 8pm (bedtime), and NOTHING HAPPENED AT 8pm. I went into my control and manually turned off their phones to see if it would work. When I turned them back on, all the apps that were neatly organized into folders were now spread across 3 pages and in alphabetical order.

When I tried to correct what I thought was my mistake for the allowed online time, it wouldn’t save the times I put in after I hit SAVE.

It was free, but it didn’t work. Eh...

Developer Response

Hi thanks for the review and sorry to read this bad experience. Did you connect with our support team at

The experience of app reorganizing is something we hope to fix in the future but are limited in the way the Device Profile we leverage works with iOS (this is common for Apple devices and any competitor in this space). Because all scheduled screen time events are dependent on an internet connection (nothing is stored locally in our app, it's not possible), there could be some misses in commands. So if the device is in airplane mode, battery is dead, or there's no current connection to a network, bedtime schedules will not work.

Lock not working

My sons iPad was scheduled to lock and hide apps at 9pm but I found him watching a “locked” app at 12:30AM when I got home from work. I know it’s free but if it doesn’t lock device use down, than don’t bill it as such. Even if I manually lock down the iPad now the apps are all present and usable. I’ll try updating the OS on the iPad and if that works I’ll edit the review. Just frustrated I counted on the app to work when I’m not around.

Developer Response

Hi thanks for the note - we just made big changes to our commands (improvements) as we found they would sometimes get stuck at midnight. Please update the app too, we just got approval by Apple for our new version that fixes some additional bugs. Please update your review and email us to let us know if things improved at
