YouAte – the mindful food diary that enhances self-awareness. Our days are jam packed, and we’re constantly running from one place to another. YouAte helps us realize what we actually ate as opposed to what we think we ate. We tend to underestimate the s****y food or overestimate the healthy food, No matter what we ate YouAte shows it to us—so we can make a mindful decision going forward!

Most of us are not aware of our hunger cues. Did we eat because we were hungry? Were we out with friends and everyone else was eating? Do we sit at a table with others when we eat? Are we constantly eating in front of the TV? The environment and surroundings all influence how and what we eat.

YouAte helps you quickly capture your meal before you eat. With a few simple taps you can keep notes about your meal and learn about your hunger cues. New: iPhone X compatibility. We had to move a few things around in the UI to make it look better on your new iPhone X. :)
New: You can now change the Date and Time of a meal when importing from the camera roll. Just click on the little pencil icon before making your on/off path selection.
New: Quickly share a meal photo by tapping twice on an image to access the photo detail view and click on the share button.
New: New message indicator in the friends view. So when a friend sends a message, you will now know about it.

Updated: Many of you asked what the YouAte tab was in the friends view. Well, this is the place where you will receive notifications from friends and the system. So we decided to start calling it: Notifications. :)
Updated: Easily close the meal details view by tapping the new "Close" button in the bottom.

Fixed: In a few instances, the app would crash when you visited a friend's path.
Fixed: Guideline selection was acting unexpectedly in certain cases.
Fixed: Starting a new path by importing a photo was causing issues.
Fixed: There were some minor misalignments in the UI.

Great app!

I wanted to track what I’m eating, but I cook it all from scratch. That means that counting calories takes a really long time - calculating all that is not worth the effort. I wanted a simple log that would still help keep me on track. YouAte is exactly that! Intuitive to use, and the reminders are a nice feature. Thanks!

Really helps you see the foods you are eating

Best app for changing habits — & its only gonna get better!

Let’s face it: most of us know WHAT we should be eating (and what we shouldn’t, lol). The problem w poor eating habits typically isn’t lack of knowledge, it’s difficulty in changing habits.

The first ingredient to habit change of any sort is becoming aware of what you are doing. And the easier that process of becoming aware is, the more likely you are to stick with it. That’s why studies where people simply snap a photo with their cellphone (of everything they eat) have shown that simple “photojournal” to be so effective.

That’s where YouAte is heads and shoulders above similar apps (and I’ve tried just about every food diary type app out there!) They have created an app that is truly elegant in its simplicity.

First you decide your goal, called your “path”. It can be anything from eating every so many hours, to eating mostly unprocessed foods, to avoiding sugar... Then each time you eat, you snap a photo and tap once to indicate if the food was in line with your goal (“on path”) or not (“off path”).

The photo date & time are automatically saved. You can go back later if you want to add details about the meal — why you ate, where you were, how satisfying was it, etc. You can set reminders (or not).

What sets YouAte apart is it is truly simple and quite elegant. You can leave it open all the time in the background, or use Hey Siri to open it, and with two taps you have recorded the meal. In addition, their customer service is outstanding.

And amazingly, it’s free with no ads. If you want to share your journal with an accountability partner (which, if you really want to change your habits, you probably will ) then you can go premium for the very reasonable price of $25/year.

What YouAte doesn’t do — but needs to — is show you your patterns over time. (Cronometer does this really well, but it is a calorie/nutrient tracker rather than a photojournal).

For example, YouAte needs to plot your “on path” & “off path” meals on a line graph against time of day and day of week; similarly plot the optional questions about “why,” “where” (etc) you ate on line graphs versus time of day & date (including day of week).

YouAte personnel assured me that these changes are already in the works (when I tapped on “chat with YouAte” within the app, they got back to me within minutes!). As long as they take care not to lose the elegant simplicity they have started with, then this app is only going to get better.
