Functions well but NO food options is inconvenient
I super support Philz having its own app. Caviar WAY overcharges and has an entire ecosystem of frustrations built into its super elitist yet ironically enough super reductive style. Order Ahead was almost perfect minus the wait times, but alas got swallowed whole by Caviar; such goes the way of tech.
Philz deserves props for decreasing the wait tome on both of those predecessors, and the new app design is pretty well-though out, while some features are confusing until you figure them out. Overall it’s pretty functional and I appreciate never having to wait long once I order.
My biggest complaint, though, is that you can’t order food. Order Ahead was good for this, and Caviar actually offered even more options specific to each Philz location — so much so that I came to rely on getting breakfast or lunch with my coffee almost all the time. This made so much of the daily hustle and flow so much smoother, and losing it was a major blow. Once Philz figures out how to get food up on its app it will be basically perfect, and I’ll be using it more and spending more on it. Until then I’m back to only using it in emergencies when I can’t make coffee at home or when I’m too busy on the go to eat more than the inferior quick grab and go pastries at the counter instead of the much tastier and more hearty meal-portioned bagels, sandwiches, toast etc that make Philz a much more ergonomic part of always being stuck on the go.
The app needs to be redesigned. For example why doesn’t it save your special instructions. I always have the same special instruction which is “ICED with 3 packets of equal.” At least Caviar would save that order as a favorite. Now I have to type in the additional line ever time. Why isn’t “iced” even a standard option?
Another problem is the notifications are not user friendly. I never get a text or notification that my order has been accepted or is ready for pickup unless I actually open the app to check. Dangerous while driving needless to say.
This is an example of another app designed by someone that didn’t actually use it in a real world situation.

Thank you so much for the the feedback. We are working on an update that will allow you to choose hot or iced as an option and one that will save your special instructions. You should see those soon. I will be sure to share your feedback about notifications. Our intention was to not flood you with too many updates, but you make some great points!
Pointless, so pointless
I’ve seen the “app coming soon” signs at all the Philz spots for roughly the past many many months so was super excited to download and use their app. I thought, “No more unreasonably long lines for me to enjoy a tasty beverage!” But alas it was not to be. Caviar is ok but is not accepted at 2 of the Philz I use frequently. Imagine how forlorn I was to find that I can’t use the Philz app anywhere in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. They’re apparently... very... very .... slowly... “rolling it out” everywhere except here in Philz beloved home region. Even the Philz baristas I’ve spoken to share a good chortle with me as we discuss the irony of all the “coming soon” signs that have been up for several trimesters, with nary a useful app to appear “soon”. Deleted off my phone for now but will look into it again later.

Thanks for sharing your feedback, and we're really sorry to keep you waiting. By doing a slow rollout of the app we have the ability to address issues and feedback quickly to ensure a smooth transition for our teams and customers. Our app will be available to use at SF stores in the coming weeks - we hope you'll give it another shot!
