Designed in collaboration with Apple, the Attain app combines your health history with Apple Watch® activity to offer personalized goals*, achievable actions, and rewards**.
This app integrates with the Health app and helps you:
• Earn rewards for hitting daily active calorie goals.
• Get reminders for important healthy actions: flu shot and other vaccinations; scheduling primary care visits and screenings; and refilling and picking up prescriptions.
• Get tips to sleep better, improve nutrition and increase mindfulness.
• Build healthy habits through challenges and daily activity.
• Get support for serious health moments, like finding lower-cost options for lab tests or imaging tests like MRI scans.
Who can enroll?
Aetna® commercial medical members aged 18 and above. Other eligibility and participation requirements, including certain state restrictions and exclusions, may apply.
How do I earn points?
Hit your activity goals and complete healthy actions to earn points. Activity goals are based on weight and sex. Some healthy actions are based on your personal health history.
How do I earn rewards?
Meet your weekly activity goals to earn enough points each month to cover your Apple Watch payment (if eligible). Or use your points to get gift cards from popular retailers like CVS, Amazon, Target and Best Buy. Find out which rewards you’re eligible for by downloading and logging in to Attain.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
Yes. Activity from your Apple Watch — along with your Aetna health history — powers the program.
Can I earn an Apple Watch?
Depending on your insurance plan, you could be eligible to earn an Apple Watch. If you order a base model Apple Watch Series 3 (38 mm) following the instructions in the Attain app, you can earn it with points over 24 months. All you’ll pay now is a one-time activation fee of $15 plus sales tax. Or you can upgrade to a different model for an additional up-front cost.
*Goals and suggested health actions should not replace your doctor’s advice. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from meeting your goals, or if your doctor advises you not to take part in physical activity, there may be an opportunity for you to earn the same reward in a different way.
**Eligibility for particular incentives varies by health plan type and location, including availability of Apple Watch as a reward. Download the Attain by Aetna app and sign in to see which categories of incentives are available to you.

Ratings and Reviews
The huge draw for this program as many have stated is it explicitly over and over, was advertised that anyone who is eligible could get a “free”/earn a watch through participation in the program. Once you pre signed up it strongly implied that if they let you download the app at all, you were “in.”
However I’ve had enough interesting experience with....less than transparent marketing practices recently to have not signed any of the information releases in the app. I downloaded to see whether they guaranteed the watch order first before telling you to sign the documents or, in words, you needed to sign the agreements as part of ordering the watch. That’s the only way I would have believed that it was a “real” attainable benefit. However, it was clear to me that that was not the case, and the fact that you need to agree to give all your information BEFORE learning the terms of ANY available rewards, was a huge red flag to me.
It’s possible this program is well intended but at this point it really doesn’t seem worth the time and effort of having an app that maybe helps them collect data on YOU, but it doesn’t seem to offer much use to the end user that you couldn’t just as easily have by using apples pre existing “health” app, and or MyFitnessPal.
So far so good
The only downfall so far is the app is glitchy , closes when I want to see activity history sometimes asks me to sign in again and can be slow to update.
I’ve been looking to get healthier and recently started my own program when I came across this. I was able to get the watch through this program and have found it to really encourage me to keep moving through the day. Unfortunately my job is mostly sitting so hitting the goal was difficult at first but I’m finding adding a little activity to my day does the trick. I agree the program was vague at first and didn’t offer much information before signing up but so far so good. I even got a couple coworkers to sign up with me.
I think it’s great that this insurance company is giving back. With as much as we pay there should be programs like this to help us stay healthy.
Good iPhone app, watch app lacking
Love the idea of the app and being rewarded for staying active and healthy. The watch app, however (or more correctly, the complications) should be expanded to work with the new info graph screens. Currently, the only complication available supports large circles (so Siri watch face, etc).
I do want to add a couple updates:
I shared the complications recommendation through the feedback app and the response seemed to be well received. Hopefully it will appear in a later revision of the app.
Second, I’ve read some reviews in which folks felt mislead that they felt they were promised free Apple Watches in return for participation. I can’t speak for their sign up process, but as part of mine, the process said that depending on the insurance plan in which I participate I might be eligible for a watch. When I went through the sign up process, it was made clear that my particular plan did not yet offer watches, but I could participate to earn points toward gift cards instead if I already owned a watch. I can’t comment to what others saw, but with my experience, careful reading of the terms and conditions explained everything to me and match what was offered to me by joining the program.
