TIAA’s Best Yet

I’ve banked with TIAA Direct for a while and have gone through various versions of their mobile app. The one I’m reviewing - current as of 12 April 2018 - is the best version I’ve used. It starts quickly whereas other versions didn’t load or failed to start; the features are easily accessible and the design is clear; it runs faster on my iPhone (which is running iOS 11.2.6) than previous versions. My only issue is that there’s isn’t a clear way of logging off. Obviously you can just close the app and assumedly that’s as effective but not having an easier sign-off (accessed through the Profile tab) seems strange.

Room for improvement

I have recently switched over to TIAA as my main bank & have found a few things lacking in the app/online access & ATM/debit card use as well. Here are my concerns:
1. On check deposits and cashed checks I would like to see a scanned visual option like many banks do.
2. The password requirements are too complex & I am asked to change my password too many times, so I forgot it & as a result my account got locked & it was a big hassle to unlock it as well. I feel the sign in process should be more user friendly.
3. Since there are no TIAA ATM machines you can use any machine & they will waive the fee, however my fees from the last 3 days of ATM use have not been waived/ re-credited & I think this should be more timely.

Built like a toy not an investing platform

Both the new app and the updated website appear to be targeting new investors. Their interface looks like something my 4 year old would play with and they both lack any real information that would be helpful to an experienced long term trader. I’m actually thinking of moving my money - I’ve been with them for over 20 years - because of it. If you never look at your account then this is the interface for you. If you like knowing what’s happening with your investments, I suggest going to a more sophisticated platform. The way they have this set up, it’s like they don’t want you to know what’s happening with your money.
