It's Ok, but...
I like AccuRadio. I really do. I listen to AccuRadio more than any other radio app at work, but the stations are very redundant on the songs and artists that they play. I've listened to the same like 20 songs from the same 10 artists so many times that I finally started banning songs and artists that I actually like, because all I was hearing was their same 2 or 3 songs over and over and over again. It's ridiculous. I like 80's and 90's music, because that's the era I grew up in. Those 2 decades had a lot more than 10 artists with 2 or 3 hits each. I would love to hear some viarety on the older stations and rediscover music I have long since forgotten as I've gotten older, than constantly hear the same 20 songs I just can't forget, because that's all the station plays.
On the plus side, this app has very few commercials, that only play for a few seconds at a time, and it has never crashed on me. I love the app, and I love the station variety. I just want variety in the songs the stations play.
Superb curated music channels
Accuradio has the best curated music channels, period. Kudos to the company's music directors who clearly devote endless attention to the selection and flow. Truly spectacular selection of all American music, all jazz, and all classical music. My only request: More! While Accuradio already offers more than a dozen brilliantly curated World Music channels, there is so much more awaiting their masterful touch. I would love to be able to select more African varieties (especially soukous, highlife, juju, bikutsi); South Asian (Urdu ghazals, film song); Andean traditional; German & Alpine traditional (blasmusik). The world is waiting for Accuradio's outstanding programmers to go completely global. But in the meantime the variety of American musical genres on offer in curated channels is simply astonishing. Download this app! You won't regret it.
Now it doesn't work at all on my ipad.
Six months later: now it doesn't work at all; it sits there trying to open, and abruptly closes. Every time.
* * *
Good: lots of genres, lots of songs. Stays up most of the time, including when you're doing other stuff on your ipad. Very few commercials (one thirty-second spot for every three or four songs). And crucially, you can mix genres to make your station.
Bad: on the ipad, it doesn't have many features it claims to have. You only find out when you read the help, and even that you find out by reading other people's old questions; god help you if you want your question answered.
So, it claims you can ban songs or artists. Not on the ipad; it says you can, but there it is tomorrow, thumbing its nose at you. It claims that you can rate a song, and it will play the song more or less. But the next time the song comes up in the playlist, your rating's gone. You press "channel options", and nothing happens. You can't review your mixed genres, for instance; that would be under channel options. There's more, but you get the idea. They trumpet their features, but on the ipad, it's much less -- and yet, they pretend it's all there -- even here. It's irritating. On a regular computer, I assume it's awesome. But on the ipad, I knock two stars off. I want to knock off three for irritation, but it really is a good app.
