Impressive app and excited for its future!

I am very pleased with the New York Magazine app. The typography, images, and icons looks clean and beautiful on the iPad Retina. I am even impressed with their Macy's ad. For the first time I spent longer than two seconds looking at an ad. Not only I looked at it, I experienced it. I recently moved to New York, and felt the need to be more connected to my new home, so their Annual Yesteryear Issue that was launched with the app on April 1st had a really well-written article about the history of New York children and their childhood. I just downloaded their next issue, and I can't wait to read it!

I didn't have any problems downloading each issues, and if there are any bugs or problems, this app is definitely worth the patience. It's only the beginning, and it will only get better from here. I look forward to see what more they can do, and will be an active reader.

Downloads are incompetent. The worst!

This is an update. Downloads are more reliable but still take a long time during which you can't do anything else wIth your iPad. Why can't the downloads happen in background once you have started them?
Also--- the Read and Archive buttons continue to be less then a finger-width apart. Way too easy to hit the wrong one and accidentally delete your hard earned issue. Really stupid design.
Please move the buttons far apart-- maybe even on opposite sides of the magazine cover image!!

I have several iPad magazine subscriptions and none of them have the download problems of New York. The last several issues, the download takes forever, during which time you really can't use your iPad. And after an interminable download you get an error message telling you the download is corrupt. So you have to start again! And again. And again. I have skipped recent issues because I could never get a clean download. How is it other magazines not only allow easy download but also allow you to start reading before the download is finished?

Infuriating design, conceived by people who have never used an ipad.

I've never written a review, but after the 3rd time unsuccessfully trying to download this weeks 600mb issue I'm finally upset enough.

The app itself is fine, I actually enjoy it much more than the physical magazine, which is rare - but the design of the download feature is infuriating. Perhaps it's an iOS issue, but whatever it is you need to find better workflow.

Here's what happens: you want to read this weeks issue so you navigate to the app and click the download button and see that it is 599+mb. After waiting 30 seconds and having it be only 10% complete, you navigate to a different app thinking that when you come back it will be complete. No, it gets to maybe 25% and no longer updates. If you forget and come back the next day it goes all the way down to 0%. I understand it may be asking a lot, but I shouldn't have to sit and stare at a download screen for 3 minutes every week to download an issue. Do better.
