This app is amazing
I have schizophrenia so I am very disorganized. This iPad Pro has been my best investment I have ever made. I call it my brain. GoodNotes is the best app (along with Things 3) on my iPad. I like to read great books and take notes. I have a Kindle Fire, with a huge book library, and it has a note taking feature, but with the way my mind works I found it to be inefficient. I tried paper notes in a Moleskine, but after making so many notes, after a while it would take forever to find a particular note I needed.
GoodNotes solved all these problems for me. I can take handwritten notes. And the writing is just as smooth as pen and paper. There is no lag at all. And I have created notebooks for each area of my life. I have a category for Christianity that has these notebooks: Bible Study Notes, Prayer Journal, and sermon notes. Then I have a reading category that include a reading journal, and a Commonplace book to write the most life changing quotes I come across. Then I have my writing category that includes my personal Journal, and a notebook for rough drafts of research papers, essays, poems etc. And finally I have a brainstorming category which includes notebooks containing Mind Maps and free writing of ideas that I have. If I was to buy Moleskines for all these notebooks, I would have spent a small fortune. Plus with the handwriting recognition and search, I can go directly to whatever note I want. Purely amazing.
Fantastic Note-Taking App
I use this daily (with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil) for work purposes: to record meeting notes, telephone conference notes, and occasional brainstorming or outlining. The search function works great and recognizes my handwriting almost perfectly—on rare occasion it can’t recognize what I’ve written. Templates can be created relatively easily. If I had a complaint, it’s that exported PDFs are too large in file size. Also, the help/“user manual” could be better, but all of my questions were answered eventually. Otherwise, fantastic. If you need to record audio AND sync that to your notes, check out Notability, because GoodNotes doesn’t do that. But since that function would have limited utility for me, it’s a non-issue. I’ve been using this since late June 2017 and cannot imagine working without it. It also gets significant use at home for basically anything I would typically write down with pen and paper.
As a consultant, I used to keep boatloads of miscellaneous notes in my backpack. I never threw anything out because I was always afraid of throwing out some piece of useful information. I’ve been able to get rid of all this paper by using GoodNotes. On top of that (and the primary reason for writing this review now), I had to reboot my iPad today after it was acting weird. The iPad got stuck in an endless boot cycle. I will most likely have to do a restore. I was concerned I lost all the notes I’ve taken since my last iTunes backup (> 1 month ago). But...I pulled up GoodNotes on my iPhone and was so relieved to find that all my notes are all in tact. Oh, and I have incredibly poor handwriting. The search feature proves to be incredibly useful and surprisingly accurate even with my handwriting.
