Every year, fire resulting from hot work ranks among the leading causes of property loss. However, proper hot work procedures can improve your company’s resilience to fire risk. If hot work is necessary, use the FM Global Hot Work Permit App to complement the hot work program at your facility.
The FM Global Hot Work Permit App models FM Global’s printed Hot Work Permit System, while employing mobile device capabilities to make the process efficient and automated. Use the app to increase collaboration, foster teamwork and support risk mitigation at your facility.
Within the app, you can:
- create hot work permits and complete precautions checklists;
- set up sites to manage multiple hot work locations;
- collect, filter and export permit and site data;
- manage, share and join permits with other users; and
- generate PDFs for printing.
Users can access the app through the FM Global App ID—a custom identity created by registering a professional or personal email address of your choice.

We use FM Global Hot Work Permit system and wanted to try the app. Unfortunately you have to login using a Windows Live ID, Yahoo or Facebook account. We don't have any of these and prefer not to create one to pass around to associates in order to try the app. So in short I can't really rate the app since we are unable to try it.
Does NOT work
I actually did go to the trouble to create a Windows ID to evaluate this app and, unfortunately, I could never get through the process. Multiple crashes at various steps caused me to give up after 4 tries. Very disappointing. Certainly expected better from FM.
We use FM Global hot work permits at work. I thought this could be useful. However you have to sign in using a Microsoft, Facebook or Yahoo account. I don't have any of those and I am not creating one just to use this app.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
