SmartRules

By obycode, LLC

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Description

SmartRules lets you easily create rules for SmartThings, so you can finally make your smart home smart! No more struggling to search through the published SmartApps to find something that meets your needs, or worse yet, trying to write the code yourself. With SmartRules, you just specify what should happen, when, and it does the rest.

Want to turn on a light when motion is detected outside, it's after sunset and you're not home? No problem!

Want to unlock the door when you arrive home, but only if there's a leak in your basement? Strange, but you can do it!

Define a trigger, set some conditions, and specify the actions to take. Your devices are all organized and easy to work with.

You can also quickly trigger rules with QuickTap. Add SmartRules to your Today Screen, and to your Apple Watch and quickly trigger a rule with a quick tap! Just add the "QuickTap" trigger to any rule, and it will show up in both of these convenient places.

What's New in Version 2.1.4

The terrible horrible login bug of 2017 has finally been slain!!

Authentication with SmartThings is finally working again. We are so sorry that this took long. We're still working with SmartThings to identify the cause of the problem, but we have a good alternative in place to avoid the problem.

As an added bonus, in our new process, we use the standard Safari popover. That means you get the added security of seeing the lock icon in the address bar, ensuring that the site is secure, and you can be sure that we can't intercept any of your data. Using this standard browser also means that you're saved passwords will be available!

As always, please reach out to us at support@smartrulesapp.com for help, suggestions, or just to say hi!

Unreliable - right idea but poorly implemented

I loved the idea of externalizing my Smarthings rules after the no-support approach they provide for a hub upgrade. SmartRules is exactly what I was looking for, so I paid the $9.99 and started writing rules. Less than 30 rules in, I've experienced incredible unreliability. The sync to Smartthings is clearly corrupted, but they blame Samsung when I reported this. Rules disappear or revert to an older version after you sync, losing hours of effort. This happens every time I add a single new condition to a rule or create a new rule. This inability to scale to support more than 10 rules without becoming unworkably unreliable is sending me back to the smart lighting app inside Smartthings. While limited, at least it works.

Great rules app. Now with finer thermostat control

Where the official SmartThings app is going in the opposite direction of inconvenient Thermostat controls, SmartRules on the other hand is becoming the shining beacon on that front. Now with the very fine ability to check on Thermostat modes (heat/cool) and to set them, so many new rules possibility have been opened up. Time to ditch the unreliable and complicated SmartThings Thermostat Director and move to SmartRules for all my Thermostat customizations.

In general this is one of the great rules apps and I have stuck with them ever since they came to the App Store; with new added controls and sensor recognition, this app keeps getting better and better.

Did I mention that SmartRules has a top-notch customer service?

Two suggestions though,
1) can we add a “NOT” operator?
2) add ability to duplicate an existing rule so can make a slight modification to the source rule leaving the source rule intact. Right now have to recreate the whole rule just for that minor modification.

Seriously awesome product

I spent all this time writing out an awesome review just for it to get trashed after saying my nickname wasn't unique, so I'm going to still put in the effort to give some summary because this product is amazing. Thanks devs, this app is amazing, highly recommended. This app offers a solution to smartthings inability to properly trigger events at specific day(s)/time(s)!
