Astronomer

By Ben Spratling

Open iTunes to buy and download apps.

Description

Astronomer makes browsing the stars fun. With multi-touch to pan, zoom, and spin around in the sky, Astronomer knows where you are and shows you the stars as you see them. Takes advantage of the iPhone and iPod Touch's gravity sensor, so as you tilt your device up and down, Astronomer pans the display for you. You can also search for the named stars & planets.

In response to the reviews, I have lowered the price from $4.99 to $1.99.

What's New in Version 1.0

Won't run anymore

When I first bought this (before the 3.0 iphone update) it seemed to work fine. I can already identify enough constellations and planets to use Astronomer to fill in the gaps, and that's what I used it for. However, it no longer starts. I can't pinpoint exactly when it stopped working, but for the last few months at least, it's completely unusable. I've kept it on my phone just in case an update comes out that enables it to work again, but tonight I've decided to remove it. Maybe I'll check back in a while, but my own experience and the other reviews make me think this is a lost cause.

Like a map without roads

or directions. I see Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, and Rigel on the screen, now where are they? If this showed a compass and the time I might be able to find them; constellations might help, too. Ben, I'm sure this took a lot of work that I am not capable of, but I'm not even capable of using this. When I look at the sky, I wonder what those stars' names are. When I look at Astronomer I wonder where those stars are.

Don't buy it

i just bought this app and it won't work. it doesn't orient to the location i'm in, the names of the stars are in some other language which is not understandable, i've tried the search function to find a planet and the screen went beserk and started scanning the entire sky and wouldn't stop, and the screen won't orient to my location nor reorient when the iphone is moved around.
