Good Value, Great interactive composition program
The simplicity and quality of ideas and sound make for a great app for musicians and non-musicians. Fascinating enough to keep one up hours, I used Aura for 90 minutes the night prior to this review litereally lost in time. For $0.99 it is a great deal and can be helpful to those interested in learning about music, but even if you don't care it doesn't matter. Since the app takes the approach of music as mechanics and stays within very tight scalic algorithims you will find a mostly pleasant sonic experience although there is plenty here to enable serious interactive compositions. Simply amazing and exceptionally inexpensive.
one of my new favorite ambient apps
i admit at first i was a little put off by the cartoonish shapes and bright colors in the screen shots, but after playing with it for a while, i am really impressed by the depth and richness of the sounds Aura produces. the unusual controls are a little confusing at first, but once you get used to them, you actually have a lot of control over the volume, pitch, timbre, and timing of the sounds produced. the slowly morphing background drone sounds great, and the melodies are very mesmerizing to play. the self-generating 'listen' mode is quite pleasant to listen to as well. highly recommended for all synth-based ambient music fans!
Nothing else quite like it.
I bought this app a long time ago, and I can honestly say I've been getting my money's worth. It hasn't been updated in a while, so there's no iOS 4 retina display optimization, there's no multi-tasking, and no universal iPad binary (or iPad version). But it still manages to transport me to far away worlds every time I fall asleep, and for that it gets 5 stars.
