I'm hooked-love it!
I love this app for many reasons, the options are numerous, note taking, bookmarking, highlighting, sharing verses, creating pictures w/ a favorite verse, numerous study plans, in settings you can choose to share to with your friends or keep private if. Also instead of thumbing through pages of your bible to find what you're looking for, the books, chapters and verses are just a click away. I could go on with every aspect of this app but I highly recommend downloading it for yourself and finding all the treasures it has! I use it for my morning quiet time and when I want to share a special verse with a friend who doesn't have the app, it's easy to send and share through email, text and social media. I'm joyously thrilled that my son turned me on to this app. No more carrying my bible around where it can get bumped and bruised, instead it stays home for safe keeping and everything I want or need from God's word is with me at all times! The only thing I wish was there was more room for storing notes as I seem to use up the allotted space for a particular note and then that specific note will cause the whole app to shut down- that's my own fault though, at first before I understood that every study plan is already saved, I was copying and pasting a whole study plan in my notes. Oops. Haha.
Good with issues
The content is obviously good, however there are some issues that I have with the app. First the volume is really low compared to my other apps. When I use my blue tooth speaker and headphones I have to turn the volume up really high in order to hear it compared to my music app or other apps. Second, the app only seems to work well when you are near a wifi network. It will play a chapter and then not play the next chapter, I often have to exit the app and go back in to have the next chapter start. If I don't exit out of the app, the app will continue churning in the background and come on at random times when I am at work and in meetings etc. I would like it to work offline and play offline without issues. Otherwise I have to wait until I am home to listen to the bible and I prefer to listen on the commute in to work. Lastly, the bible plans are ok, but they have no teachings with then. There's nothing that explains what was happening at that time etc, I guess I get it because there are so many different facets to Christianity and each group has different interpretations, but in some instances the readings are helpful because you can't always understand how they correlate to the supposed topic that they are supposed to be focused on.
This is the most important reference APP on my iPhone. Easy to use, quickly change translations.
The YouVersion Bible is a powerful tool for spiritual growth. The newest version allows one to record notes, attached to specific passages, and is therefore a perfect way to record important teaching points during lessons, classes, seminars, and sermons. Switching from one translation to another is as easy as 1,2... That's it (no 3)!
UPDATE August, 2015:
I continue to use it as my constant Bible reading application with key, free services: Verse of the Day, short, thematic Bible studies on key concepts such as Forgiveness". And it continues to be my favorite way to learn from the incredible teaching I'm blessed to sit under: by taking personalized NOTES! I honest,y don't know whether anybody has ever read even one of my modest publications, but about a year ago I began to make some of those that helped me the most to be PUBLIC. Trust me: it's nothing to do with ego! It's just this: if our God is great enough to bless even a depraved sinner like me, imagine how He might bless a person such as YOU!
