EXPLORE LIKE A LOCAL
It’s just like having a local friend to show you around. And that friend just happens to be a professional tour guide.
The same information you would get on a bus tour or from a guide book, for just a fraction of the price. And you control the itinerary and schedule.
No data, cellular or even wireless network connection needed while touring. Download over Wi-Fi before you tour. Anyone can use them with no need for roaming data – even visiting from another country.
DRIVING TOUR ROUTE
This tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more:
1) Jaggar Museum at Kilauea
2) Thurston Lava Tube
3) Kilauea Iki
4) Chain of Craters Road
5) Holei Sea Arch
7) Punaluu Black Sand Beach
From the Kona side of the island, the tour route travels south bound around the bottom of the island and then up the eastern side to the Park entrance.
From Hilo, just drive south on Highway 11 and the commentary will begin as you pass the airport.
There is also more commentary as you return back on the same route.
Its important to know that this is not a full circle of the island. For that tour, please download the Big Island Full Island tour.
Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network.
++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle.
** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine.
GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning audio tours along scenic drives around the world. Enjoyed by travelers who prefer to set their own pace and itinerary on vacation, but enjoy a fun, informative and educational guided experience. Our goal is to provide a great introduction to the region and perhaps inspire you to learn more and return. None of our apps include paid advertising or placements for benefit.

Big Island companion
I wasn't sure what I was buying, but after 5 minutes, I knew I had done the right thing. I was driving by myself.
The guide was there for me almost turn for turn. History, mythology, sightseeing, it was all there on my radio. It took me from Kona to and through Volcano Natl Park and home again. The ride home was especially fun because the speaker continued his stories throughout the 2 hour ride back to Kona, in the dark. At one point he advised me that a particularly curvy stretch of road was coming up. He said he would be quiet so I could concentrate as I negotiated this section, advising me to slow down and focus. Sure enough, as I got through the last curve, he came on and congratulated me for my safe driving. Of all the info this app imparted, that was the part which most impressed me. It was the best $5 I have ever spent.
I want to plan a trip to one of the other destinations Gypsy services just so I can listen to the script for that place.
You won't go wrong with the Big Island app.
What a find!
The day before our Big Island trio, a friend mentioned this app. My husband and I try our best to avoid the “touristy” stuff with long lines and crazy prices. This app is such a gem! Extremely informative, easy to use with options along the way, depending on what you want to see and how much time you have. Don’t visit the islands without this!!
Bought this app for our drive from Kona to the Volcano National Park. It was easy to
use and very interesting and informative. It works
With your GPS so you don't use data. There is a running commentary about the points of interest and the history of the big island of Hawaii as we drove to the national park. We
did not miss a bit of the park using the app. We stayed late at the park to see the volcano glowing and have dinner at the Volcano House. The app was a welcome addition as it kept our interest on the long dark drive home. Well worth the app price. Didn't realize there was an app for the entire island till it was too late because I would have purchased it also
