Boxcar provides you with a unique e-mail address that you forward your e-mail to. We take privacy very, very seriously and only store who it's from, and the subject. We then send you a push notification!

NOT WORKING AFTER iOS5
I bought Boxcar to get push notifications via Tweetie 2 (which their app store page says works perfectly) well it does not it works with Tweetie (the original) and when they roll out the Tweetie 2 update for Boxcar I will have to pay .99 more cents to use it.
That’s false advertising!
I added Twitter as my free app with the purchase of Boxcar, then I added Facebook and I clicked the add button once yet I was charged twice, and two Facebook with the same user information popped up! I contacted customer service and they have not responded.
From what I have read from other users their customer service is pretty much non-existent.
Also note, that if you ever have to delete or reinstall the Boxcar application you will have to re-purchase each account, so if you have Twitter, Facebook and maybe an e-mail account you will be spending $3 extra dollars when to use the apps you already purchased again that’s .99 per account if you have to swap your iphone out with Apple, you upgrade to the new iPhone next year etc.
They don't tell you that anywhere on their app store page, I also asked them to clarify in the email I sent technical support and of course no reply so buyer beware.
Lastly, the service work sporadically you may not always get an instant notification but then you may get a flood of them the service seems to be very rocky. I would not have spent the money had I known then what I know now.
Great for email alerts
This app is great if you use it for email alerts, especially with Gmail. In Gmail, you can setup all kinds of filters. Then you configure the filter to forward to its own Boxcar email address. Very cool!
So I forward emails from various accounts to gmail, then setup the filters there to forward to the various email addresses associated with each of the Boxcar email alerts that I have setup.
Just keep in mind that gmail processes the filters sequentially, as they are listed in the filters screen. To move a filter to the bottom of the list, go into that filter's settings and hit update. That is the only way I know of to change the order of the filters.
For example, you can set a filter to look for emails that contain label:inbox. But you want this filter to be last in the filter list. That way, all the other filters process first, and if the message is still in inbox, the it will get processed by the inbox filter. You will get a warning message when you set a filter to look for messages that contain label:inbox, but you can ignore that.
Was great, now not so much
Update: Wish I could give this app a negative rating. 1 star for it's inability to work but even worse, the developers complete arrogance and unwillingness to acknowledge the severity of the issues that plague this app. Every (seldom) twitter app that mentions "server issues" makes it sound like a rarity when the fact is, maybe they should tweet to notify their users when the service IS working =\
That's how seldom it works.
Was a great accessory app to go with Tweetdeck and Sparrow, neither of which have push notification functionality... So I was pretty bummed out when Boxcar pretty much decided to stop working. I realize it's a free service - but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to point out that this app is for all intents and purposes, useless since its reliability is next to nonexistent. And besides, I paid to have the ads removed. So it's a purchased app that remains useless. It doesn't even take up precious real estate on my phone anymore. I'll continue to keep an eye on this app to see f the developers figure out a way to keep their servers up and running and deliver the service their app claims / promises to offer PAYING customers.
This isn't a complaint, it's a review. This app is useless.
