Deluxe generative edition of Brian Eno's acclaimed 2017 ambient album, Reflection.
"REFLECTION is the most recent of my Ambient experiments and represents the most sophisticated of them so far. My original intention with Ambient music was to make endless music, music that would be there as long as you wanted it to be. I wanted also that this music would unfold differently all the time - ‘like sitting by a river’: it’s always the same river, but it’s always changing. But recordings - whether vinyl, cassette or CD - are limited in length, and replay identically each time you listen to them. So in the past I was limited to making the systems which make the music, but then recording 30 minutes or an hour and releasing that. REFLECTION in its album form - on vinyl or CD - is like this. But the app by which REFLECTION is produced is not restricted: it creates an endless and endlessly changing version of the piece of music.” - Brian Eno

Ratings and Reviews
Just calling it an app is akin to saying Falling Water is just a building.
It’s a brilliant app - but really to call it an app is to miss the point, it is an experience of a rare kind, delivered on an iOS device. A contemplative audio visual experience on demand. I rely on the audio during my NYC commute - a pool of calm in a sea of utter chaos. Some evenings l will stream it on my Apple TV- I have a quality screen and sound system so the image / sound becomes a beautiful live artwork- I actually like to keep the volume rather low (if your sound system is up to it) not just below audible, wink wink nudge nudge but low, it’s beautiful. Really.
Nice sounds, but overpriced and repetitive
Maybe my expectations were too high. Been an Eno fan for decades, and generally know what I am in for when I purchase his works. But this was presented as a “generative music” project, a “river of sound” that is never the same twice. But the implementation of the the assets makes for considerable repetition. I started using the app nightly to meditate. I quickly became irritated that I was hearing the same phrases multiple times within a 10 minute period. This is more like a playlist on shuffle than endlessly evolving generative music. If this were $10, I would not care. At $40, I have a problem with how this product is being presented.
Simply fantastic. This app is an art piece, generating random musical composition that defies category. Is it ambient music? Certainly not “New Age“ due to the depth of sonic expression and genuine creativity engaged.
Great for a bath with candles, a massage therapy session, just taking some time to space out, sleep aid… Virtually unlimited possibilities with this and all of Brian‘s apps. Splendid work, thank you. Worth the expense, not least of all because you can use it for years and years, just as I have with Bloom.
