Camera Lock protects your privacy by detecting and preventing unauthorized webcam access. Hackers, spies and companies share a great interest in your privacy, and some have found ways to turn on your camera using malware, viruses, camfecting and click-jacking. With Camera Lock you can deny all apps access to your camera. If a camera was already in use, its video will freeze immediately. No more need to tape over your camera!
“Believe it or not, a hacker could be spying on you through your MacBook Webcam right now. Yes, right now.”
And, if you unlock your camera, Camera Lock will monitor activity and alert you instantly if an intruder turns on your camera!
• Camera Lock completely disables camera access by any app
• When unlocked, instant automatic alerts when a camera is accessed
• Fast keyboard shortcuts to lock/unlock
• Log with most recent camera activity
• System status bar icon shows camera activity
• Adjustable alert sound
• Automatic launch at logon
• Autolock with screensaver/screenlock
• Synchronizes with Microphone Lock (separately available in the Mac App Store)
• Compatible with both internal and external webcams
Protect your privacy, lock your camera and detect intruders.
Camera Lock was developed to minimize the risk of unauthorized camera access. Future advances in operating system as well as hacking may affect the risk. The only 100% secure way to prevent unauthorized camera access is to have no camera at all.
Ratings and Reviews
It always annoyed me tht some apps, like Skype, access the camera without asking for permission. This app prevents that. It resides in the menubar where it is easy to activate and deactivate. It works great.
Works well, except...
“Helper” menubar app is always using at least 1.8% of my processor power. Will give it a try sometime later and see if it’s less demanding. Meanwhile, I stuck a piece of transparent tape over the camera. That way my screen’s automatic brightness works but any video is all blurry.
Lack of transparency
While the app does what it says and is pretty user friendly.
There doesn’t seem to be much assurance from the developer over app transparency. Is the code open-source so anyone can check they aren’t actually spying? If you’re downloading this sort of software you want assurances that the app is not going to do the same thing that it is proposing to stop (i.e. intro. back doors, key logging, etc.)
When they upgrade the transparency in this regard, I’d be happy to give them 5 stars.
Developer Response ,
Hi Pcmngan, thanks for your support. Open-source code would help hackers and put us out of business... The assurance that we are not spying on you comes from the fact that Camera Lock ships via the Mac App Store: It is strongly managed by macOS ("sandboxed") and has no access to files, folders, cameras, etc without your explicit permission. If Camera Lock would try to access the camera or microphone, macOS Mojave will ask you for permission. It does not! Hope this helps. Thanks, Qneo
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
