Difficult to justify that much money
I have made it quite far when I originally purchased this app and was annoyed with all the spelling and grammatical errors (I even emailed their help desk with multiple lists of errors) and when it said ignore grammar for the typing tests and then fails you for not using accents it told you to skip, only to realize that none of what I was learning was sticking. I'd do a level and then not see some of those words or phrases again so there wasn't enough repetition in order to learn. I thought I would go back and start over and see if that would help with retention and now I need to buy again at a higher rate?! Not sure I can justify spending that much money to risk running into the same things that annoyed me the first time. Wish they had done product testing BEFORE hitting the market, maybe then I'd be willing to pay twice.
UPDATE: was able to restore my previous purchase and not have to pay again and they added the ability to add accents. However, there are still multiple grammar errors and in some spots when you click on the right answer it tells you are wrong because the system doesn't match what it says; when you click on the wrong answer it will read it out loud as a completely different answer and the correct one. This just adds another level of frustration.
Los profesores están borrachos. No wonder I did not learn Spanish before!
I love cat spanish. In the beginning I really hated that when testing, if I missed an accent mark it would mark it as not correct, but I really put my mind to getting them right and it has paid off with those accent marks. This is a truly entertaining game with benefits. When I take my breaks at work, I do 2 sessions that last 10 minutes a piece. This equals up to 20 minutes of really beneficial studying that does not feel like studying. When learning a language as an adult it takes some true dedication and giving up much of your time, while finding how to utilize every extra minute you have for your studying. I had no problem paying the 6.99 for this game because there are just some things that are worth the money. People always tell me about duolingo. But I make sure to tell them about cat Spanish because it is funny, and most people remember things when they are entertaining. I highly recommend this game. Instead of taking 10 minutes to play candy crush or angry birds, utilize your time for something that is fun, but also has lasting benefits.
What's with the price increase?
I like the app itself; it is a fun and funny way to work on Spanish (albeit peninsular Spanish, not Latin American Spanish). My gripe (& reason for not giving this a higher review) is the price jump. I was an early adopter of the app and bought it for $1.99. This granted me access to all levels available. Then they made it free, but those who had already paid had bonus features or some other extras that I can't recall offhand. It had been awhile since I'd last used the app, so I thought I'd get back into it yesterday...only to discover that I can't go past level 3 (I was way beyond that when I last used it) unless I cough up $6.99. What?! Since when did they decide to do this? What about those of us who had already spent money on the app? Why can't i access any of my previous progress after level 3? If I pay the $6.99, can I get back to where I was, or do I have to start back at level 3? I don't know if I want to pay that much for an app, as I'll have spent close to $10 total between my initial purchase and the current price. I wish they hadn't jacked up the price and capped previous purchasers at a low level; otherwise, this was a fun app that I would've recommended for anyone learning Spanish.
