What's New in Version 4.1.2
Recently redesigned app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Update now for additional speed & stability improvements.
Horrible text quality
The new version 4.1.2 seems to have made offline capability better on the iPad. Before, even if you downloaded the book, you couldn’t access the material without signing in. Now it loads up and doesn’t make you sign in each time. The speed of accessing material is greatly improved with the new version. However, the big problem is that they are so concerned with piracy that they intentionally apply watermarks to the electronic text and they intentionally degrade the text quality so that it looks rough and in some areas, blurry. Imagine using your retina display to read non-smooth text! That’s a waste and I find it to be really annoying. CourseSmart is sometimes the only place you can get certain books in electronic format, but there is another company called Kno and if you can get a book from them, the above mentioned problems do not exist. I would only rent or buy a book from CourseSmart if there is no other alternative!
I was so used to the old one that really.... This updated version is more user friendly however, it took me some research to find the update, you should be able to update directly from your AppStore old version. The highlight function improved greatly, you no longer need to draw a box. It does have a bookmark function and the notes are there. A lot faster than the first one. The zoom function has also improved, you no longer need to play with it several times to center it and the rulers are gone, which to me were annoying....i wish they would find a way to incorporate a dictionary, not all readers are native english speakers
Frequently crashes when I need my books most and my iPad mini is brand new. Often times the navigation buttons refuse to show up and I have to scroll through the entire text page by page, pretty much defeating the purpose of renting an eBook. Search being separated into three separate categories is really unnecessary and wastes time. Offline features are very frustrating, and I gave up on trying to use them. Not sure why a simple textbook reader is so hard to make when the textbooks on here are still decently expensive for rentals. On top of it all the resolution is very poor. Also, since there is an option to sign up/sign in with Facebook on the website, there should be an option to sign in with Facebook on the app.
