DBT Diary is the world’s most advanced system for keeping DBT notes on a mobile device, and features a robust system for exporting notes for psychotherapist reference.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a powerful new form of psychotherapy that has been proven by research to help people with borderline personality disorder, spectrum mood disorders, self-injury, abuse and chemical dependency. After using the app for one day, I’ve identified some major issues and am hoping to get a refund. Overall, the interface is usable, so I think with some tweaking they’d have a really nice app. The first major issue is that the app will let you log an “event,” and you can write to your heart’s content, but the “report” that is generated will only show THREE LINES, or about 25 words. So if you’re using the app and trying to share a report with a therapist, it cuts off everything but the first few lines. Secondly, you can’t go back and access your reports easily. It seems to generate a PDF immediately, so if you want to go back and review a previous report, you can ONLY see the truncated (shortened) report and not the whole body of text that you typed. You have to zoom in, but then again, you’re only looking at the three lines of text.
Recommendations for improvement:
1) Allow users to access previous reports easily and not in the PDF format
2) Give more of a scale (instead of 1-5, give 1-10 scale like most therapists use)
3) Show more lines of info in the report that’s sent to the therapist
Great DBT App
(This review is by the creator of the "DBT Self Help" website.) This app will be a real boost for DBT participants. It can be hard to be compliant on keeping up with the diary card when you have to find the sheet of paper & try to remember what happened. This app allows for easy access to the diary card at your finger > > tips. I think it will especially help beginners to DBT because it's so straight forward."
Very handy app!
This app has been super useful for keeping my DBT notes and diaries. I just can't do it with paper and pencil! The app also saves the diary notes so I can show them to my therapist later, or email them. The app is very simple and easy to use, there isn't a lot of extra, unecessary functions to get confused by. Highly recommended.
