"This App alone is worth the price of my iPod."

"The music is incredible and I especially like days when the psalms are sung. There are days when my time is limited and I do morning or evening prayer on my commute to work. [...] Ribbon placement is provided. Very easy to use and intuitive app and WELL worth the money."

"Well worth it. Exceptional App! Not cheap, but well worth in."

The Divine Office App is an opportunity for you to participate in the recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours, an ancient and meditative collection of psalms, hymns and scripture that represent the public prayer of the Christian community.
If you are unable to pray in community, but love the contentment of praying with others, an added feature of The Divine Office App lets you view locations where other Christians around the world are simultaneously praying with you.
Hours included for each day are:
* Office of Readings
* Morning Prayer
* Midmorning Prayer
* Midday Prayer
* Midafternoon Prayer
* Evening Prayer
* Night Prayer
This app will automatically update its content while you are running it with an Internet connection.
This App is an audio and text version of the official set of daily prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours of the Roman Catholic Church (Breviary). It wirelessly downloads several days of prayers at a time, without the need for iTunes synchronization or access to a computer.
For clergy required to pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily, or laity who recite the daily prayers to maintain their intimate connection with God, The Divine Office App is designed to make praying more convenient, enjoyable, and simple enough for anyone to use. It automatically downloads the appropriate prayers for each office, every day of the year, including Solemnities, Feasts, and Memorials.
The Divine Office App uses the current four-volume Liturgy of the Hours with a bias towards the USA calendar. This version is the official prayer book of the Catholic Church, however, it is suitable for those following Eastern Orthodox and Anglican traditions.
When St. Paul advises us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing,” he intends more than simply bowing our heads and speaking to God on a regular basis. He means for us to adopt an ongoing attitude of prayer that is a way of life and a constant intercession for the salvation of all mankind.
As the mystical body of Christ prays in unison, it fulfills what Paul advises as Christian conduct, that believers at once pray for the good of themselves, their neighbors, and the world. In this way, prayers become liturgy, a way to fulfill our divine calling and a practical approach for addressing the suffering of the world.
The Divine Office is also available free from our website at www.DivineOffice.org or our podcast called Divine Office. Thank you for supporting our ministry by your purchase.
Check out also Divine Office Prayerpedia app - a reference of 2000+ Catholic prayers in several languages.
Please note: This app requires Internet access through wifi or a data connection through the cellular network. iPod Touch users will need to have Internet access through a wifi connection at least every four days for about 10 to 30 minutes (depending on Internet speeds).

This has really improved my prayer life - best app I've gotten for my iPhone.
I have been a subscriber to the Divine Office podcast for a year and a half, and recently purchased the app (I only recently got an iPhone rather than an iPod). The app has made things SOOOOO much better, as I needn't spend time every night updating the podcast, which sometimes was posted too late to get because of the time zone differences (I'm in Connecticut, they're on the west coast). With the iPhone app, it does it automatically, and even provides text of midday prayer, so I can add that to my liturgy. This way of praying the daily liturgy of the hours is absolutely terrific!. I've been underemployed or unemployed for most of this year and being able to immerse myself in prayer each day has made my situation much more bearable than it would have been otherwise. Also, i am a cantor in my parish, and the music included in the prayers makes it that much more worthwhile for me as i can sing along with the hymns and other sung items. Keep up the terrific product! It's worth its weight in gold without question. Many thanks for a terrific product, made immensely easier to use with the app rather than downloading the podcasts. I'd give it more than 5 stars if that option were available!
Settling up needs improvement
It was getting to be a chore syncing the various podcasts so I went ahead and downloaded this application for my iPod touch 4th generation device. Right away, it attempted to download all the hours for a five day run. The iPod would crash and return to the home screen. Powering off and on did not solve the crashing nor did fully recharging the battery. I finally found a solution. I closed all open apps. Opened the Divine Office app and quickly navigated to the settings screen and disabled the automatic download option. It took a few tries because the app kept shutting down. Once the download setting is on "Manual" you can download the hours one by one. In my case I chose the Invitatory, Morning and Night Prayers for weeknights and included Evening Prayer for weekends.
It would best if upon opening the app for the first time it would walk the user through the Settings to avoid the persistent crashing.
What I like about the app versus the podcasts is that I no longer have to sync to the desktop to update this breviary. Another plus is the app stops playback at the end of the Hour automatically. With the podcasts, I had to manually select the stopping point. I'm still on the learning curve this being the second day of use. I was hesitant at the price of the app but so far I'm finding the app very convenient.
Wonderful app but not perfect
This app wins on many fronts:
1. It allows one to pray the liturgy rather than figuring it out.
2. It uses the American St Joseph's translation complete with Psalm-Prayers.
3. Allows one to pray with "others" following along with the audio or just reading the text. I find it invaluable praying during my daily commute.
4. Works great for the most part - easy and intuitive to use.
5 Audio maintained by a caring staff. A glitch caused by human error on the website had caused the app to keep crashing repeadedly. Reported the problem and it was fixed later that day. Unlike other apps where one is out of luck.
1) the hymns are sometimes different than in the LOTH. Hopefully this will be corrected over time.
2) optional memorials are not usually prayed. This is understandable though because of the audio which does not lend itself open to various options.
3) prayers are many times incorrect or incomplete and updated at the last minute so trying to pray offline loading in advance most likely will end up with incorrect text/audio. Hopefully this gets better with time.
4) app no longer seems to be maintained. Last version was 2 years ago and known bugs remain. For a paid app, this is questionable.
