The best app in the Universe!!
I get goosebumps just thinking of how this app has changed my life! My girlfriend and I have been doing the German course just over a year and a half and we both now speak it half-way decently (which says a lot)! We live going to German restaurants here in LA and ordering in German. We've also read some grade-school German books and have fully comprehended them! We would be a lot further into the course but they keep adding more and more classes and cool things to do like the flash-cards and now the bot-texting (which is not a complaint at all)! The app is super intuitive, easy, and fun to use yet literally never ever gets boring! I hope that when the day comes that we finish the course and then take the test that they'll have Chinese as my goal then would be to learn Chinese using the native German course! It'll be a double whammy. My only problem (if you wanna call it that) is that it'd be nice if they could find a way to reward us for collecting so many lingots cause we have nothing left for us to buy with them lol... something like letting us take the tests in exchange for so many ligots (just an idea)! Don't waste your money on Rosetta Stone... Duolingo is just as good if not better... but a whole lot more free! You have the keys to the world with this program! Thank you so much Duolingo! 🙏🏻
Muy Bien
I'm in Spanish II as a freshman and I really enjoy learning the language. I learn at a faster pace than the class is designed for so I use Duolingo to learn more. I recently completed the Spanish tree and I continue to practice daily. I love the style of Duo's app/website. It's very easy to use and it makes learning fun. I really like that you have to keep strengthening lessons after you've completed them because this helps keep the words/rules fresh in my memory. I also love the immersion part of Duo's website and I would love it if this could be included in the app. The chat bots are a great addition to the app as it helps simulate conversational Spanish instead of just formally reading/writing.
The one problem with Duo is that it doesn't teach grammar very well. I relied on other sources to help me with some of the lessons due to me not knowing the correct grammar. In Spanish class we have only learned present tense verb conjugations so I had learn the rest of them on my own to get through Duolingo's program. I would love to see a more grammar-oriented program on Duolingo! 😊 I would also like some added "Bonus Lessons" as there are only two for Spanish.
Overall, it's a great app to use for learning a language. It definitely needs to be supplemented with other sources (particularly to learn grammar) but for a free app it's absolutely amazing! 👏🏼
Muchas gracias, Duolingo! 🇪🇸
Game format is fun. Some errors.
I like the game format and the daily tracking and reminders. It seems to do a good job of tracking my progress and bringing back topics that I need to review. It is engaging enough that I stick to it, and I do think it is helping. This is not my only language activity, however.
There are a few frustrating glitches. 1) Sometimes the software doesn't accept input; I have to click any number of times before it moves on. 2) It took forever to figure out that sometimes there are two correct answers on multiple-guess questions, and they want you to click both. I would click a correct choice, the app would respond "wrong," then give two correct answers, including the one I had just clicked. 3) There are a few language errors. For instance, I chose "apartamento" for "apartment," but the app gave the answer as "departamento." 4) The computerized voice is sometimes hard to understand.
