IN APP PURCHASES
We are attempting to use the expanding capabilities of the Mac App Store to deliver in ways that benefit you, the customer.
Benefit here means both providing you both perceived value for money exchanged and flexibility in meeting a variety of usage patterns and needs.

In our case, subscriptions match our product ‘unfolding’ strategy; it’s a form of 'kickstarting'...

Now, we certainly understand that some folks really don't like subscriptions at all. We're fine with that.
In fact, we foresee a future where we no longer offer subscriptions at all.
In time, features which have been added to Enact thru subscriptions will be bundled as modules and a ‘Base’ version will be introduced.

But this is version 1.0. We have to start somewhere. So we start simple:

Buy, Use, or Subscribe

• Buy - $12.99 USD All future Premium Enact functionality - no future upgrade fees or subscription fees - one fixed cost! Done. Really, this is a heck of a deal - the price of a sandwich!

• Use - 99¢ for 3 months of Premium functionality.
Just pay when you use it. Because Enact will grow continuously, each 'use' could see more functionality available than a previous 'use'.

• Subscribe - $0.99 for 3 months of Premium functionality. Auto-Renews. Always on Premium functionality.

When you initiate an Enact auto-renewing subscription, your payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase.
Your auto-renewing subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
Subscriptions may be managed and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the Account Settings in iTunes after your purchase.

You can visit Apple's support pages online for information about managing your auto-renewing subscription.

Customer Reviews

Not ready for prime time.

Prospice

The description is interesting, but I just can’t figure out *how* to use it. That is, I don’t know how the developer intends for it to be used.

There are in-app purchases available that enable “more features,” but it doesn’t list *what* those features are. The UI is confusing and “rough around the edges.” There is no documentation, not even tooltips for the buttons.

In short, I can’t seem to make it *do* anything, and can’t reccomend purchase in this version.

Developer: I *hate* leaving a bad review, almost as much as you hate reading them. Please, please, please move “document how to use the thing” to the very top of your to-do list and include a link to that in the “HELP” menu. Tell me how to use your product, and I bet I’ll love it.

Developer Response

Prospice;

First, thank-you for taking some your time to leave feedback.
I really appreciate that effort on your part!

To your points:
• tooltips will be reviewed thoroughly before the next update.
• videos showing a variety of usage scenarios will be forthcoming on the website.
I feel that this is a better mechanism that a lot of text - do you agree?
(video also overcomes the burden of translation for lots of text!)

What Can You Do Right Now?
I can't be sure from your comment but I'm inferring that you have not yet made either 99¢ purchase.

When you launch Enact you should see a window clearly stating: "Reduced Functionality".
This is the free product; meant to give the user a 'sense' of the product and some minimal functionality.
In this state, you have access the 'Safari' data source from the 'Source' row.
This shows you a tableView of your open Safari tabs. This tableView is completely configurable as to the actual contents and their relative order.
This tableView is draggable and provides 'What You See Is What You Drag' - that is the contents of the drag are exactly what you have configured in the tableView.
(Function Key down drags an Excel HYPERLINK function instead of the naked URL)
In "Reduced Functionality", you also have access to the Clipboard data source.
The font & size is configurable and the view includes a regex based highlighter with an autoscrolling tracking widget.
In this view, you can also toggle a two (or three) level view that will show you the text broken out by sentence or paragraph.
You set the font and font size of these listings and they can be filtered using a standard search widget.
A selection from the set of filtered sentences can be dispatched to any data target...

If you did make either 99¢ purchase:
The Safari jump list widget will appear in the menubar. Its available from inside any application. The list refreshes whenever Safari moves to the background.

To generate a citation, drag some text from, say a Safari web view, onto either the Enact window or dock icon.
The dragged text, which can be reformatted, and a configurable citation is immediately ready for dispatch to any data target.

So drag some text, a click or two to get the citation setup, highlight some text and send to any data target.
You don't need open a text processor and create a document to fiddle with the drag...

That's probably enough,
Steve
