External IP is a extremely simple but very, very useful network tool - It shows your current "real" external IP-address in the top right corner at the status menu beside the system clock.

A "real" IP-address, also called external IP-address, is a IP4 address, that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) allocates to you. This IP-address can be fixed or can change every time you "dial-in" !
In bigger networks, like company networks, this external IP is mostly significant for the companies routers or switches.
External IP software is useful for administrators, or users, who switch their networks like VPNs and want to verify there current IP-Address with just one click or look !

Very unhappy
On the app store this is promoted as a menubar app but this has a dock icon which cannot be removed. Most menubar apps give the user an option to show the dock icon, or not. Why on earth would I want to clutter my dock with an icon that has no purpose for an app that has such a minimal use? If the developer were to offer the option to remove the dock icon then I'd give this 5 stars but as it is now I won't be using this app and I give it one star for this regretable oversight by the developer.
Has one simple function, and almost always fails
At $0.99 no big loss, but it nearly always fails to get the IP address. Almost always showing: ‘Scanning for ext. IP-address when in auto mode, but even when manually requesting to get the IP address it fails. I’ll update my review when a software update fixes the problem. At the moment it doesn’t perform the single function it’s meant for and thus useless.
