Impressive port but with some gripes.
I've been a Final Fantasy fan for awhile now and I thought that, since I had played this on my PSX, why not get this on my IOS device. Let me just say this, if strategy and RPGs are your thing, then you will enjoy this so much. You might not even depart from your phone. I found myself playing for at least two hours. There some inconveniences that isn't game breaking but you will have to get used to. Like experienced a glitch where after the first cut-scene, some of the sound from that cut-scene was still playing well after the scene was over. I actually restarted the game and it has not happened again. I assume for Iphone 5 users, you will have to adapt to the HD bars on each side. I wish they'd update that but I really don't mind. Next, if you have big hands (I have sort of a medium sized hand) you'll have a bit of trouble. Trust me, a game as Final Fantasy Tactics, each action and move counts towards your victory. If you just so happened to hit something you don't want, it could cost you the battle so you'll have to adapt someone way to that. Those were the only things I could find that weren't even annoying to me but could still catch the attention of players. Overall, this definitely worth your money and I stress, THIS IS NOT AN APP. This is a full blown game with a very excellent story full of mature tells and such. You'll enjoy it nonetheless.
I'm going to go ahead and say that 4 stars is the most honest rating you can give this port of the game. The last time I played this, the speed of the game was fine, just the ability animations took so long to hit, I could rob a bank and still wouldn't finish (sarcasm) Not to mention the sounds that didn't accompany it at all, I was glad to uninstall it. When a new update came out, I thought that SE fixed it. They did not. All they did was increase the speed of the game overall. They couldn't bother to fix the PSP version, why would they fix this one thoroughly? Even though I like the port of Final Fantasy Tactics TWOL, and how they went in depth with the story, I can't give them a very high rating. I know that they still have like thousands of FF4 remakes to do, but come on. This is one of the darkest games they ever made/published, yet they still ignore it. I hope they become better in the future, and have an open ear to their western fans, because a lot of them complain about the right things. I am looking forward to FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III, I just hope they didn't lose their touch with console games. Also, stop complaining about the game not being optimized for the iPhone 5, there are a lot more things to complain about, and screen optimization is not one of them.
Good at its core, but has issues
I got this game because I loved both FFTA and FFTA2, and I knew from the start it would be a much different experience due to the lack of "advanced at the end. At first I really hated the controls on the iPhone, but as I played through the game further I learned how to manage them efficiently so they were no longer a problem at all. While the storyline was a bit subpar, my real complaint is with the characters function in battle. The only characters which often used moves other than default attack were the mages and a few really OP storyline characters. It definitely didn't feel as intense as other games in combat when all I was doing was spamming the same thing over and over. And by far the worst part of my experience with this game was the end of the storyline. The story's ending itself was fine, but after you've watched the last cutscene, you can only reload your game into the middle of the last bossfight. In order to find the last few optional characters and see all of the side-plots the story has to offer, I'd have to start an entirely new game and play through the same first 50 hours or so of using deffault attack. No thank you. If you're interested in this game, you should get FFTA2 instead.
