Mixed results with app
I've been using this app for several years and until recently I had no complaints. Everybody in the family has the app and they can add items to the list as needed. The sync is sometimes slow but it generally works. I'd give the app 4 stars based on that, but I am concerned about what appears to be a new behavior with a recent update.
When I switch apps or when I check my notifications there will sometimes be a message from Grocery IQ saying something like "Good Morning" et cetera. That tells me that the app is running in the background, which I do not want it to do so I went to the iPhone settings for "Background App Refresh" intending to turn off the background refresh and discovered that there is no option to turn off the background refresh for this app.
I DO NOT WANT "friendly greetings from apps. I don't think it's cute or amusing, I think it's a bit creeepy. I DO NOT WANT apps that use up my battery when I am not using them. When I use the task switcher to shut down an app I want it to shut down. If the developers do not get rid of this behavior I'll soon be looking for a new shared grocery list app.
Glitches are frustrating
Having read some of the reviews, I have to agree that although this is a good app, it could be even better if some small improvements were made. I find it frustrating that when I first open the app, I have wait some seconds before I can navigate. I find I frustrating that when entering the packaging, it rarely ever brings up package descriptions I've created before and when it does, it's never a complete list. I'm always having to enter a package description that I've created before. I find it frustrating that when adding a favorite, I constantly have to keep an eye on the star to be sure it stays green. Often, when entering a description, a price, or packaging, when I am returned to the item, the star will no longer be green. It would be nice if you could assign an item to multiple store lists at the same time rather than having to do it individually. All of this being said, this is one of the better grocery apps, but they are lax in doing these fixes because people are using the app in spite of these weaknesses.
Pretty good app but not perfect
I've really enjoyed using this app. I've been using it for about 2 months. It's easy to add items with the barcode scanner. One improvement in this area would be to allow a manual override for times the scanner doesn't recognize. The user could scan Google for a picture of the product if he scanner doesn't recognize the barcode and associate the new pic with the barcode to be recognized as the product.
I like the ability for multiple users and the ability to add additional stores. I would like the ability to add additional categories (isles) because I use this to add items I would purchase as a hardware store or other types of stores that's not a grocery store.
I like the app and find it quite useful. There are improvements I would like but those don't detract from the usability of the app.
I do wish the user could submit requests and suggestions to the app developers rather than having to use a review as a means of communication.
